HeatTrak Snow & Ice Heated Walkway Mat, 120 Volt Review

HeatTrak Snow and Ice Heated Walkway Mat, 120 Volt

We bought this item for our steep driveway, so that we can cut down on heavy shoveling during large snowstorms. It is enough to melt the snow to allow one side of your car tires to roll over and gain enough traction to get up the hill. The heat is barely noticeable. If you place a ball of snow on it it will not melt instantly but rather over 10-20 minutes. We keep this outdoors all winter and it is very sturdy. It is also very heavy to pull out from storage. If you are a petite person you will need another person to help you carry this out to the walk. For this winter we used it in front of our house to clear a walkway from the street to the front door. Melts snow perfectly and even dries a rim of concrete all around it. No more slipping on ice or slushing through snow!

Indus-Tool ICE-SNOW Ice-Away Heated Snow-Melting Mat Review

I purchased this heated mat because my 87 year old Mom moved in and was also recoveing from a broken hip. the mat is great but there are problems. Once the ice and snow melts off, it freezes a band on the outer edge of the mat that is not heated. Another issue is that you need to go out and lift the mat to get off the melted snow and ice water or when you turn the mat off, it will re freeze. Despite its issues, we do love it because the first step out of the house is alway safe and then you can grab onto the railing . Everytime it snows we turn on the mat and then when melted we go out and lift it to get off the excess water and turn it off. I do recommened it but be aware of the issues related to it, hense the 4 stars.

DeLonghi EW7707CM Oil-filled Radiator with ComforTemp Technology Review

DeLonghi EW7707CM Oil-filled Radiator with ComforTemp Technology

After reading many of the reviews on Amazon, I purchased this delonghi heater. I can't be happier with its performance. I believe the more positive reviews are a result of using this heater as it was designed - to gradually maintain a slow heat in a small-mid sized enclosed room (say, 20x20 with 9' ceilings). If you want to quickly heat a large room with a blast of hot air, get something with a fan or turn up the thermostat.
We use this heater at night. It does such an effective job of keeping our room at a comfortable 70F (even at lower settings), that we have programmed our central heat thermostat to go down to 60F at night. Of course, the effectiveness of the heater is also dependent on how well your house is insulated.
There were some comments about the heater getting hot to the touch. Well, yes, of course it does - it's a heater! But even at it's highest setting, the metal is not sizzling. It is well insulated enough that you can touch it for a few seconds before it gets uncomfortable - plenty of time for the occasional times you may bump into it. At lower settings - this isn't even an issue.
Why an oil-filled heater? It produces a very gentle heat without drying the air like a conventional ceramic or electric heater.
Why the delonghi? Gentle heat without any sound. We purchased the Honeywell 7-Fin Oil-Filled Radiator Heater as well (they were out of stock of the delonghi), and while it heats fine, it creaks and cracks when you use it. I'm sure this is due to the metal expanding and contracting as it gets warmer and cooler. It's not a huge problem, but if you are a light sleeper, it may be an annoyance.
The only downside I can think of is the wheels. Doesn't roll well on carpet - which is fine, we don't' move it much anyway. But overall, love the delonghi. We've had it for 2 weeks now and I hope it lasts this way for several years.

DeLonghi EW7707CB Oil-Filled Portable Radiator with ComforTemp Technology, Black Review

I purchased the DeLonghi heater instead of another brand because I have for many years associated that name with the oil radiator type of heater. The one I purchased, the EW7707CB works well but has a couple of what I would call "design flaws" that would prevent me from purchasing another one. One of the flaws is that if you press the energy-saver button while the heater is hot, it is natural to use your free hand to hold the back end of the heater as you press the button on the front end. Well, the back end of the heater is hot at some points during use. The other feature that I have found not so helpful, is that when you turn the dial from * to 1 to 2, etc., to set the heat level, it is not easy to see the number. I have to put on glasses and use a flashlight in order to see what number I am turning to. This is not a big deal, but it is enough to keep me from ordering another one. I wanted a second heater, so I just bought another brand at my local hardware store. Other than the above feedback, the heater does seem to work well. It has two settings - one for 700 watts and one for 800 watts, or you can combine them and run it at 1500 watts. I have been using the 700 watt setting in an insulated garage with a concrete floor, and I set the dial around 1 or 2 for the heat setting. With nighttime temperatures outside of around 15 or 20 degrees, it keeps the garage at 48 degrees and uses around 2 to 3 KW of energy per 24 hours.

HeatTrak HCM24-3 24-Inch by 36-Inch Outdoor Snow and Ice Melting Electric Heated Door Mat Review

The HeatTrak does what it says; it stays warm all the time and snow and ice melt away.
There were two disappointments though. One is that Amazon's photo of the product shows an on-off switch positoned on the cord and you would think that you could leave the mat plugged in all the time, just switching it on/off as needed. The mat we received has no mid-cord control and must be turned on and off by stepping outside and unplugging or plugging it in. Big difference since our outlet is not convenient to use, and no good for energy savings, either. The other disappointment is that right out of the box, the Heat Trak smells very strongly of rubber and has continued to smell for 4 weeks. We get a whiff every time we open the door. Additionally, we got this so that our dog would have a warm dry spot to wait until we let her in. Instead, she avoids the mat and has never yet sat on it.
