OK, this is going to be somewhat complicated, because the vacuum cleaner itself is somewhat complicated. It tries to be a combination of both an upright and a canister vacuum by use of a removable "wand," which forms the backbone of the vacuum.
UPRIGHT MODE:
When you use it as an upright, it works pretty darn well. It removed an amazing amount of grit and other debris from my carpet that my last vacuum completely failed to remove. Now, the unit does have a safety feature, wherein the spinning brushes stop spinning if the top is too upright, and that is a little too sensitive for me. That is to say, sometimes I pull the unit back towards my foot, only to have it stop spinning. Nonetheless, that is a minor complaint - in general the vacuum worked wonders.
CANISTER MODE:
When you remove the "wand" you have an already attached (after your initial assembly) but removable pet hair turbine, which looks like a miniature upright, and you can extend the wand to get to the ceiling (for cobwebs) or the top of the drapes. The turbine doesn't bend easily for use on drapes, but that's OK, you can remove it and use a different attachment for those. My biggest problem with the wand is reattaching it to the base. Unless I am doing something wrong, I always find it just a little hard to get it in correctly on the first try, and if you don't get it in correctly you can't secure the wand and return to upright mode. It doesn't take more than a couple of seconds to reattach, but I do wish it was even easier. Nonetheless, I had no trouble using the wand in its various modes, and thought that it did a great job on my stairs (especially), ceilings and drapes.
By the way, the hose on this vacuum stretches out quite nicely, meaning that you are not too tightly tethered to the base.
EMPTYING:
A very nice feature of this vacuum is that it is bagless. Now, I had a bagless vacuum once before, and I hated it because it never seemed to get completely clean. The tank on this unit removes quite easily, and empties with the push of a button, then you just click it back in. I checked all of the parts of the tank, and found that the unit does a very good job of keeping itself clean. I must say I was very pleased.
CORD:
Cords can be a problem. Fortunately, this vacuum has a 40 foot cord, which means that I can plug it in and then vacuum my front room, foyer, kitchen and mudroom without ever having to move the plug. I like that. If you have a small house, on the other hand, you might find the long cord a bit of a nuisance. Personally, I don't see why they can figure out a way to have a removable cord, like a computer has, so that you can go with a longer one or a shorter one. But, for me the 40 footer is quite nice, and I have no complaints about it.
CONCLUSION:
As for me, I found this to be a really great vacuum cleaner, easy to use, and very versatile. I was tempted to take away one star for the problem I have with reattaching the wand and the spinning issue, but in truth those are minor quibbles. The fact is that when I put my cursor over the fifth star, it says, "I love it." And, in point of fact I do. I think that this is a great vacuum and I am very glad that I got it. I highly recommend this unit.
