Irish Moss 50 Seeds - Sagina - Perennial Review

Irish Moss 50 Seeds - Sagina - Perennial
Average Reviews:

Received baggies and bubble wrap envelope full of "seeds" that are hand labeled with a ball point pen right onto the plastic baggie. Irish moss came with a hole and now seeds are somewhere probably in my carpet. No invoice or transaction record, no company information. Return label indicates it came from an individual. They say the going green. Plastic non-renewable baggies and bubble wrap envelope are not "green" JUST CHEAP. Seriously it really is my own fault, I should have gone to a specialty seed store and and not been lazy and ordered them online from a private seller. All i can say is i expect a refund and they better grow something. Do yourself a favor and go to your hardware store and pick these up. Worst transaction I've had on Amazon and I order regularly.

A flowering plant, and not a moss at all, but spreads slowly to form a dense, evergreen, moss-like carpet with dense, tiny feathery leaves. Studded with a galaxy of white flowers for a short time in mid-summer. Tolerant of sandy or rocky soil, sun or part shade, but needs a steady moisture supply. Can make a fine ground cover or lawn substitute where conditions are suitable. Perfect for planting between stepping stones, in small crevices between rocks or pool-side. For sun to part-shade in moist, well-drained soil. This plant will not survive if planted in a hot, dry location. Please keep this in mind if you are planting it between rocks. 1-2" tall. Zones 4-8.

Mosquito Repelling Creeping Thyme Plant - FANTASTIC Review

Mosquito Repelling Creeping Thyme Plant - FANTASTIC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased three mosquito repelling thyme and 4 Hidcote Blue Lavender plants from Hirt's Gardens. They all died within 2 weeks. I sent and email explaining my situation. The responder asked for pictures of the plants, which I promptly sent. After many back-and-forth emails with a Hirt's employee (name was never given) he/she asked what brand of soil I bought and where I bought it. I responded with "an Organic Potting soil mixed with sand that I purchased at Lowe's". Conveniently their response was that they don't recommend Lowe's soil. There were no instructions for the type/brand of soil needed listed on the website or enclosed with the plants when they arrived. I bought the same soil I always buy and even added the sand to help with airation to prevent root rot. The pot has ample drainage and the plants got full sun. I watered them as recommended.
When I finally called to speak with a human, she said she would have to speak with someone else and call me back. She called just a few minutes later and said that the person she spoke with "told you that you picked the wrong soil" and "the only thing you can do is ship the plants back to get your money back." I agreed to do this, but told them that I felt it was unprofessional to expect customers to know if they recommend or adivise against a specific soil/product. I also told them that I shouldn't have to pay to ship dead plants in order to receive a refund. I have yet to hear if they will be refunding the shipping charges. (Had I not paid over $40.00 for the products I probably would have just let it go.)
I try to support small businesses as opposed to large corporations whenever possible. Sadly, I'll probably stick to Lowe's for garden products from now on. At least I know they will refund my money with no questions asked.

MOSQUITO-REPELLENT THYME THE ONLY PLANT OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD! Thymus citriodora
The Ultimate No-Spray Mosquito Repellent Combats Mosquito Problems Safely This relative of the thyme family has a pleasant lemony fragrance that scents the air with a perfume mosquitoes cannot tolerate. The high citronella oil content of this hardy, easy-to-grow perennial plant is more potent than any other mosquito repellent plant tested, and more potent than citronella candles or sprays, especially when the leaves are rubbed onto exposed areas of bare skin. Reported by plant scientists at a major university, and published in major national magazine media, the mosquitorepellent thyme is up to three times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than other mosquito-repellent plants. Mosquito repellent thyme is used as a garnish or cooking herb; the lemony scent of the herb makes it a great addition or flavoring foods for a citrus scent. The plants are easily grown and spread fast making an attractive low growing 4 tall ground cover with a mass of light violet flowers.
Plants will grow successfully in zones 3-10. Also makes a great houseplant in a sunny window!
The plant you will receive is growing in a 4" pot.

Safer Brand 5170B Ant and Crawling Insect Killer 4 Pound bag Review

Safer Brand 5170B Ant and Crawling Insect Killer 4 Pound bag
Average Reviews:

I discovered diatomaceous earth after a search for non-toxic pest control. DE is a mechanical killer -- meaning, it never loses effectiveness the way that poisons do. Diatomaceous earth is named after diatoms, the fossils of single celled organisms which have sharp edges that cut insects' exoskeletons so that they dehydrate to death. It's like razor wire for roaches. AND unlike boric acid (borax), it's food safe, so humans can use it in kitchens.
Cover your mouth and eyes when you use this, because big puffs of dust will come up with each spray. It's safe stuff to use, but it's not fun to breathe.

7 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes Review

7 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have a German Wire Haired Setter named Maxwell Quincy (Max for short) who is allergic to fleas and flea control products. Max is 11 years old and has had to be medicated every summer for this problem. While doing research on flea control I read about nematodes and decided to give them a try. They have worked wonders for Max, this is the first summer he hasn't had a severe reaction to fleas!
After seeing how well they worked to control the fleas I bought some for the cabbage cut worms in our garden. I am pleased to say that in the 25 years we have had a garden this is the first year we haven't lost one head of cabbage yet.
Plus, if you are worried about this, we have checked a small specimen from each shipment with a microscope and found the nematodes to be alive and well upon receipt. Our grandchildren love watching them and get excited everytime we get a package.
Nematodes prey upon more than just fleas and cut worms so I suggest checking out the list of things they kill. If you have trouble with any of the pests on the list purchase some for yourself and I am sure you will be pleased with the results. Nematodes are microscopic wonders!

BENEFICIAL NEMATODES These microscopic insects will seek out and destroy over 230 kinds of soil dwelling and wood boring insects, including cutworms, armyworms, rootworms, weevils, grubs, fungus gnat larvae, and many more. They are completely safe for people, pets, and the environment, and are compatible with other beneficial insects. Beneficial nematodes are shipped live in the box and may be mixed directly into the soil and are applied with a sprayer.
USE: Beneficial Nematodes (BN) attack more than 230 kinds of soil dwelling and wood boring pests, such as flea larvae, white grubs, cutworms, corn root worms, strawberry weevils, gypsy moth larvae, cabbage root maggots, fungus gnat larvae, and many more. RELEASE: BN may be released by spraying with water, mixing with mulch and applying directly to the soil or potting mix, or injecting into burrows. They may be used any time of year, as long as the ground is not frozen. Do not release in direct sunlight, as this will kill them. See directions for details. COVERAGE: Will cover up to 200 square feet, but faster results are obtained with higher concentrations, covering only 200 square feet. GENERAL INFORMATION: Beneficial Nematodes (Steinernema feltiae) are microscopic in size and cannot be seen with the naked eye. But the 7 million active units in each pint container will hunt down, penetrate, and kill most soil dwelling pests. BN will attack over wintering adult insects, pupae, diapausing larvae, and grubs when they are in the soil, bark, or even ground litter. BN do not affect humans, animals, or plants. They are completely compatible with beneficial insects such as ladybugs, lacewings, and praying mantids and do not harm earthworms.

Average Reviews:

This is wonderful to prevent fleas. We have been using it around our dogs pen, in the pen and in our home. We didn't have a flea problem inside to begin with but we are using it to prevent that. Our dog was bringing in at least 6 fleas every day. We started putting it on the dog and it almost totally keeps the fleas from getting on her which is no small feat. Our house is surrounded by woods and she stays outside most of the day. It is also OK if she ends up eating some of it because it's safe. They actually use it to deworm animals anyway. One of the drawbacks is that diatomaceous earth dries out skin. We haven't had any issues with it yet but we're always watching.
We have also used it on our rose buds and blooms. We dust it right onto the roses. Japanese beetles and June bugs were eating them up but sense we started using the diatomaceous earth, I haven't found but one or two. The roses are much healthier now.
The only drawback is that after a rain or heavy dew, you have to reapply the dust. Also, if you plan to use it on or around your animals, it needs to be food grade.

Bought this for a section of the yard that neighbors cats were using as a litter box. Seems to work quite well and stopped the cats from being in that area. The ground steak cracked when setting it up initially inserting it into the lawn. Would have been nice if they used a better material for the steak, either stronger plastic or metal, considering the price of the unit.

Protect the vegetable garden and flowerbeds from neighborhood cats with this unique device. Using ultrasonic sound waves that are not audible to humans, the cat deterrent emits a piercing, high-decibel for two seconds when its built-in motion detector senses motion. The cat soon associates the area with this unpleasant experience and avoids the area in the future. The cat deterrent covers 330 square feet with a detection range of 20 feet in front of the device in an 80-degree arc. For convenience, there are no controls or adjustments. Simply place the unit facing the area needing protection and install one 9-volt battery. The battery should last about nine months, which is an estimate based upon 4,900 activations spread over 245 days at an average of 20 per day. Another highlight includes weatherproof construction--the device can be left outdoors in all conditions, rain or shine.

That Orange Stuff 16 oz. Review

That Orange Stuff 16 oz.

I recently bought and used this cleaner and was really impressed with how well it did. It's a concentrate, so once it's diluted, the price is very inexpensive. I was surprised at how many different jobs it did around the house! I was planning on just cleaning the sinks and ended up unclogging drains, cleaning the toilets and mirrors. It can also be used in carpet cleaners, so I'm planning on trying that next. I also read that it fixes squeaky hinges. I like that it's an organic product but at the same time gets the job done well. So many organic products I've tried in the past did not work as well as the regular cleaners. Plus, this cleaner has such a nice, light scent that I don't have to air out the room when I'm done. All in all, I was very impressed and ordered two more bottles!

This is a neat rose variety! Best of all, its easy. There is no fancy pruning needed, just occasional shearing to keep neat and tidy and to remove the spent flowers. It is resistant to Powdery Mildew and Black Spot--so you really do not have to spray it. The showy blossoms are displayed most of the spring and summer. The plant likes full sun and is deciduous, growing to about 2 feet high by about 4 feet across. Shipped as a potted 2 gallon plant, not bare root.

I don't have much of a green thumb but this creeping thyme came up just fine. I started it indoors in March and let it grow until I planted it outdoors in mid- to late May. It has continued to thrive. My only word of caution is that you might need more seeds than you think. 500 seeds was probably less than 1/4 tsp full. I had no idea the seeds were so tiny.(it does make them a bit hard to control when planting)
If you haven't grown creeping thyme, know that it forms a dense, slow/low growing mat. I don't find it to be invasive. It has nice dark green foliage, (tiny) that turns a dark crimson color in winter. It has tiny pink/purple blooms in spring.
