(More customer reviews)The Rug Rat is a turbine-driven carpet-beater vacuum head. The airflow that grabs the dirt is also used to spin the brush; it doesn't use electricity. It works well as long as you have good suction (that's the force) and don't press too hard.
The trick is to keep your suction up. You will need a central vac or shop-vac, not a regular canister vac, to drive this. And even with suction, the trick is to get it up to speed and then engage the carpet, lifting whenever it slows. So it's not as good a performer as if a motor were driving the brush. But it is an adequate way to clean stairs.
