Dyson DC23 Plus Canister Vacuum Review

Dyson DC23 Plus Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

With the addition of the 912967-03 hard floor tool, this vacuum is perfect for cleaning hardwood floors. By itself, it is very well designed for cleaning stairs. It is designed to sit on the stairs. All swivels on the hose and tools promote ease of handling and keeping the tool flat on the floor for maximum pick-up. The ONLY disadvantage I have seen to this, is that the power button is on the cannister itself, requiring returning to the cannister to power on/off. Maybe the model with the power head has controls on the hose?

Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum Review

Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to admit I was skeptical at first because of the lukewarm "professional" reviews of Dyson in general, but now I'm a true convert. I LOVE this vacuum (coming from someone that HATES housecleaning).
Pros
--Canister style vacuum-great for those of us with back problems that can't push around a heavy upright for long.
--Suction power-WONDERFUL suction on this thing.
--Power brushes-stiff bristles "refresh" the carpet and can easily be turned off by foot controls (no bending down).
--Maneuverability-this has a ball style joint that makes it extremely maneuverable.
--Compact storage-it wraps around itself and is light enough to easily pick up and carry.
--No filters or belts to replace-just clean the built-in filter every 6 months with tap water.
--Quiet!-this is the quietest vacuum I've ever used.
--Retractable cord-guess this is standard on most canisters, but as a former upright user this is a nice feature to me.
--Low profile vacuum head-makes it easier to get under the couches, beds, etc.
--No bags to buy...ever!
--5 Year Warranty
Cons
--No headlight-funny I didn't realize how dark some of my corners are.
--Using attachments is a little awkward because of the larger, inflexible handle, but I imagine I'll get used to it.
--Short power cord-could definitely use a few more feet, but I suspect this was as long as they could fit into the compact unit.
--Power brushes-just a warning here, they're not for delicate carpets. They're rather stiff compared to most and I imagine could do some damage to older/thinner rugs.
--Small collection bin-available volume seems small due to the compact design, but it's EASY to empty, so not really a big problem.
--Price-it's not cheap, but I did find a 20% off coupon on-line for another store so saved $100.
There are enough cons that I can't give this vacuum 5 stars, but none of them are serious enough in my opinion to be major detractors. I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

Delivering 220 airwatts of suction power, this canister vacuum cleaner features advanced Root Cyclone technology to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. The unit's hard-floor tool provides improved pick-up on hard surfaces, while its quick-draw Telescope Reach extends instantly for stair and high-reach cleaning. Turn the motorized brushbar on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turn it off to protect rugs and delicate floors. Thanks to the vacuum cleaner's money-saving, lifetime HEPA filter, air expelled from the unit contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air. Other highlights include a motorized cleaner head for easy maneuverability and cleaning in tight spaces, a 16-2/5-foot cord, and 4/9-gallon bin. In addition, the hose and wand compress and wrap for compact storage. The vacuum cleaner measures 17-2/3 by 11 by 13-4/5 inches and carries a five-year warranty.
From the Manufacturer

Dyson\'s Stowaway canister vacuum is ideal for those who want the convenience and store-ability of a canister but also want a floor-cleaning machine that doesn\'t lose suction. It easily wraps to store away, as the hose and wand collapse and wrap for storing purposes. Because of its motorized cleaner head, the Stowaway provides an effortless steering experience, making it easy to maneuver and clean in tight spaces. It has a foot operated brush control, so you can operate it without bending down, and a clear polycarbonate bin that lets you see when it\'s ready to empty.

Dyson Stowaway: The Only Canister that Doesn\'t Lose Suction

The Stowaway canister vacuum utilizes Dyson\'s renowned Root12Cyclone technology. The Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed, so dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, not on filters or bags. Unlike other vacuums, a Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction, so it picks up more dirt. Also, the vacuum\'s motorized brushbar has powerful bristles which remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, and it has no belt to replace. The Stowaway is very hygienic--its clean expelled exhaust air has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than air you breathe. Lifetime HEPA filtration is another way that this vacuum keeps things clean (it\'s been approved for allergy sufferers by the British Allergy Foundation). The extra cleaning tools are stored board for simple and rapid access, and, for easier cleaning in confined areas like cars, the tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand. The Dyson Stowaway also boasts a durable, tough construction--it\'s made from ABS and polycarbonate, materials used to manufacture crash helmets.

What Makes Dyson Different

Bags Clog Suction

When the vacuum cleaner is empty, clean air flows into the machine and out through the pores of the bag. However as soon as you start to use the machine the bag starts to fill with dust and debris. The bag acts as a filter and the machine starts to lose suction. This is because the pores of the bag begin to clog with the dust that the machine has picked up. This restricts the airflow which causes loss of suction power.

Other Bagless Systems Clog like Bags

When the vacuum cleaner is new, clean air flows through the container and out through the filters.
However as soon as you start to use the machine the container starts to fill with dust and debris. The filters clog, and the machine starts to lose suction.
This is because the surface of the filter becomes blocked with dust, restricting the airflow which causes a loss of suction power.

Only Dyson Doesn't Lose SuctionDyson Root Cyclone technology uses 200,000G of centrifugal force in the cyclones to filter dust and remove dirt from the airflow efficiently. Because there is nothing to obstruct the airflow, it doesn't clog and doesn't lose suction.
Dyson proves no loss of suction claim using the IEC 60312 Cl 2.9 test standard.

Dyson has the Most Advanced Cyclone Technology

The Dyson Story

James Dyson

You know the feeling when some everyday product lets you down. You wish someone could solve the problem. James Dyson does that. He is a man who likes to make things work better. With his research team he has developed products that have achieved sales of over $10 billion worldwide.

The Bag ProblemIn 1978, while vacuuming his home, James Dyson realized his bag vacuum cleaner was constantly losing suction power. He noticed how dust quickly clogged the pores of the bag and blocked the airflow, so that suction dropped rapidly. He set to work to solve this problem. 5 years and 5,127 prototypes later, the world's first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner arrived.

No Place for New TechnologyJames Dyson offered his invention to major manufacturers. One by one they turned him down, apparently not interested in new technology. They seemed determined to continue selling bags, worth $500 million every year. Later, Hoover's Vice President for Europe, Mike Rutter, said on UK national TV: "I do regret that Hoover as a company did not take the product technology off Dyson; it would have lain on the shelf and not been used".

Kenmore Canister Vacuum, Intuition Review

Kenmore Canister Vacuum, Intuition
Average Reviews:

Consumer Reports rated this one best and I have had this vacuum for about 2 months now. It hasn't disapppointed. It works great and is truly a great design. I love that the floor cleaner pops in and out of the power brush. All the controls are at your fingertips. It is a little on the expensive side but with all the great features it is understandable. I got mine at Sears for a little less than Amazon wants. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is I wish it had more suction. There is a suction control but even with it closed all the way and turned up completely once in a while it isn't quite enough. I also wish it had more control when you are pulling the canister behind you but this is common with canisters. I would absolutely recommend this vacuum to anyone!

Electrolux EL5020A Intensity Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Electrolux EL5020A Intensity Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This little vacuum packs in power and innovative design. From the first try, I was amazed at the suction. The first time through the house I quickly filled the bag and had to change it. The Intensity pulled up all the little carpet fuzz on the 3-year-old carpet that my old vacuum could never get. It has more power than any other vacuum I've used.
The collapsing design is a nice feature. It folds up into a neat little package that fits easily on a closet floor without running into the coats. I love the controls on the top of the handle. You can go from bare floor to carpet with the touch of a button. The cord retracts nicely. The bag is easy to change, though a bit small, well, because the vacuum is small.
I discovered a nice fail-safe feature when I tried to finish the room when the full bag light was on. The vacuum shut off. I waited a bit to let it cool down, changed the bag, and it started right up. So pay attention to that light.
Overall, the design is fantastic. A couple improvements though would make it even better. For it's small size, light weight and those big wheels, it doesn't corner all that easily. The front is nice and flat and has an edge for going under cabinets, but since the front is the same width as the back, you can't go straight under cabinets. You have to go at an angle and keep adjusting the position. So making the front part a little wider than the back would make going under cabinets a breeze.
Also, if it didn't have that big carrying handle on the top of the canister, it would vacuum right under the bed. The handle isn't positioned well anyway for doing stairs, because when you hold it by the handle to maneuver on stairs, it's too back heavy and tips back. A handle placed a little farther back on the canister would solve that problem - and it would vacuum under the bed.
There are no attachments with this vacuum, but I prefer that it do it's job on the floors and I use a cordless vacuum for furniture, edging and stairs anyway.
Please don't write this vacuum off as a secondary, light-duty vacuum. Even though it's small, it's a full-duty whole house vacuum with plenty of suction.

Appropriately named "Intensity", this upright vacuum cleaner picks up dirt, dust, and debris without the need to vacuum the same spot over and over again. Its 12 amp motor and direct airpath maximizes suction power--dirt travels just 3 inches to the bag instead of through long tubes and hoses, which can slow down performance. The unit's fingertip controls allow for selecting "on/off", "carpet", or "bare floors". In carpet mode, the cleaning head adjusts automatically to different carpet heights and uses the spinning brushroll for a deep-down clean; bare-floor mode stops the brushroll to protect bare-floor surfaces. In addition, the units 12-inch-wide cleaning path with edge-cleaning brushes ensures fast results, while convenient performance indicator lights signify maximum suction, as well as when the bag or filter needs to be changed. Other highlights include an adjustable-height telescopic handle for comfortable use, a soft-touch grip, maneuverable handling for cleaning around furniture, soft wheels, HEPA filtration, and a 1-quart dust capacity for minimal bag changes, as well as a bi-fold handle and retractable 21-foot cord for compact storage that takes up less space in a closet than a laundry basket. The upright vacuum cleaner measures 17 by 12 by 14 inches when folded and carries a two-year warranty.

Dyson DC23 Motorhead Bagless Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC23 Motorhead Bagless Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Instead of writing a long paragraph, I'll just jump to the pros and cons
Pros:
- Amazing suction: The amount of dirt and lint it sucks is incredible. Compared to my old hoover where I had to go over the carpet few times to suck out all the dirt, the DC23 is so powerful, I only have to run over the carpet once or twice and the carpet is clean. This is primarily due to the strong suction but also to the very powerful brush.
- I have very expensive and old rugs with tassels. When the motorized brush runs over the tassels, the brush shuts off. My old hoover vacuum would either gets intangled with the tassels or the rubber band connected to the motor would snap.
- It has a telescopic rod. When fully contracted, the DC23 is ideal for cleaning steps.

cons:
- VERY BIG WEAKNESS: The motorhead is so strong (a plus as I described above), it sucks in my delicate and fine rugs. Not only it sucks it in, but it's also stripping some of the threading from the 100 year old rugs. I wish Dyson had put a level to control the rotator head instead of just providing an on/off switch.
- Again, because of the strong suction, I'm having to empty the canister 3 or 4 types every time I vacuum my whole house, 2300sf. This is pretty minor actually but it was worth noting because my wife was complaining about it. I didn't seem to mind or care about having to empty out the canister frequently.

Light and quiet, the Harmony really cleans hardwood floors and area rugs well. We don't have wall-to-wall, but from what I can tell, if you have lots of carpets I would recommend moving up to the Oxygen model. It does not come with a powered carpet attachment. Gotta work a bit to clean carpets - glides easily on hardwood. Stores in small places. Great design and easy to use; instructions are a bit weak. Overall happy, great in a small city house/apartment.

Hoover Elite Cyclonic Canister Vacuum with Power Nozzle, Bagless, S3825 Review

Hoover Elite Cyclonic Canister Vacuum with Power Nozzle, Bagless, S3825
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our Hoover wind tunnel vacuum was beginning to show some wear after 6 years (power cord insulation broken) so we decided to spend a little more money and buy a Dyson DC14. As soon as it was out of the box and turned on it made a horrible grinding racket so it went right back in the box and back to the store. I was gun shy about buying another vacuum and spent a lot more time trying them out. Having owned several Hoover vacuums including a carpet cleaner that I love, I began to think I shouldn't stray from a reliable brand but I was still open-minded as I shopped and used several different brands and models at the store. I found the Hoover Elite Cyclonic to be the best that I tried. It is very simple to operate, with common sense, intuitive hookups between the canister and hose and the hose and wand. The adjustable wand is heavy duty metal and clicks quickly and easily in and out of the power nozzle. The power nozzle itself has a light and a powered, spinning brush that I like. The cyclone canister holds plenty of dust and lint and is easy to empty. I was leery about buying a canister since I have always found uprights easy to move around but I have absolutely no trouble handling the Elite Cyclonic. The adjustable handle is a plus since I am tall and my wife is shorter, and we can both vacuum comfortably. An absolute plus given my worn electrical cord problem is the automatic cord reel, which winds the cord into the canister body at the touch of a spring-loaded button. The vacuum is powerful and pulled dust, lint, and hair out of the carpet as well as the Dyson I used, but with none of the noise and flimsyness that I experienced with that brand.
The ONLY minor complaint I have about this vacuum concerns the fact that since it is bagless, there is a slight dusty mess when emptying the canister container into the wastebasket. I believe this to be true with any of the bagless vacuums currently on the market, and it empties quite like the Dyson that I tried. This messy disposal is certainly offset by the convenience and cost savings of not having to buy replacement bags. I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner!

Equipped with a 12 amp motor, this bagless canister vacuum cleaner provides powerful performance throughout the house. Convenient fingertip controls on the handle make it easy to adjust the suction-control valve or turn the brushroll function off when switching from carpets to bare-floor surfaces. The unit's multi-stage cyclonic technology first separates large debris into the outer chamber, then it separates fine dust into the center chamber, and finally it uses a filter to catch any remaining dust allergens that may have gotten through the first two stages. Combined with its HEPA media filter, which traps 99.97-percent of dust and pollens down to 0.3 microns, the vacuum offers exceptional filter technology for cleaner air and strong, consistent, suction power. Disconnect the power nozzle by simply stepping on the disconnect lever; the wand can then be used with a variety of on-board attachments for above-floor cleaning of upholstery, stairs, drapes, and more. Other highlights include an adjustable-height telescopic wand for comfortable use, a headlight on the power nozzle, a large-capacity bottom-empty dirt cup, and a 25-foot power cord with automatic cord rewind for tidy storage. The bagless canister vacuum cleaner measures approximately 26 by 16 by 15-4/5 inches.

After replacing carpeting with wood flooring, I was on the lookout for a good, light weight canister. My upright did not work on the wood floors and the hose attachment created back-breaking work. Sweeping & swiffering still left dust behind. After many months of searching I found this Panasonic. My upright Panasonic has been a rugged, dependable machine, so I knew the brand would be a sound buy. This vacuum is just perfect for wood/laminate/tile floors. In addition it does great on area rugs (low pile) and it's a dream on stairs (carpeted). Light weight, easy to manuever, with very good suction. Powerhead adjusts to wood/carpet and the rotating brush makes sure all dirt disappears. Very pleased with this vacuum.

Other highlights include a telescopic wand, a full furniture guard, edge cleaning, and a 12-inch nozzle, plus a three-stage HEPA filtration system and a high-efficiency dust bag that collects and protects leakage of dust. Eureka 6500A Airextreme 12-Amp Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner with Hepa Filtration Review

Eureka 6500A Airextreme 12-Amp Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner with Hepa Filtration
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Eureka because I wanted an 'upstairs' vac. You know, the machine that we just keep for the bedrooms. Well, I now use this machine all over the house. Here's what I really like about this vacuum:
fairly quiet operation
variable speed motor
excellent filtration
power nozzle seems self propelled
very large bare floor brush attachment
Now, things I don't like about it:
small bag capacity
flimsy, tiny little dusting brush - worthless (and it keeps falling off the holder)
made in China
The bags, while very small, are easy to change. And they are fairly inexpensive, so I can't kick about that too much. The power nozzle goes under very low things (like beds and coffee tables) and cleans very well. The carpet almost looks new again. The suction is very good, not outstanding, but certainly enough to clean well.
I wish the speed control for the motor was in the hose handle, and not on the cleaner, as I don't remember to bend down to turn the knob when cleaning throw rugs (which is what a speed control is made for), and wind up dragging the throw rugs across the kitchen floor.
All in all, it's a decent cleaner at a decent price, and I feel it will do the job I require of it for many years. For the average person's needs, and in a home less than 2000 square feet, with wall to wall rugs and bare floor surfaces, it's a fine vacuum. I did go to a vacuum cleaner service shop and bought a REAL dusting brush (round, with horse hair bristles) that works like a dream compared to the one included. Cost: $4.

Electrolux EL6988D Oxygen Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Electrolux EL6988D Oxygen Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was quite confused when I first started doing research on electorlux. My mother, and her mother, have always owned electrolux vacuums. This electrolux is not the same company that has been doing business in the U.S. under the electrolux name in the past. The old electrolux has changed their name to Aerus Electrolux.
Electrolux is an international company that states on their website "Electrolux is the world's largest producer of appliances and equipment for kitchen, cleaning and outdoor use." In the United States they do business under the familiar names: Eureka, Frigidaire, Poulan, Weed Eater, and now thier upscale brand Electrolux.
OK, on to the vacuum. I bought mine after much research at Lowe's. While opening and putting the thing together, a small clip that holds the power head on the shaft broke off. I called the company and they said they would send me a new piece with out much hassle, but then got a call back 15 minutes later saying that since the product was so new, it might take 2 months to send me a replacement part and suggested I just return it for a new one to Lowe's. My over all experience with thier customer support leads me to beleive that I won't have too many problems dealing with them in the future.
My second vacuum unpacked fine and after a couple uses I'm quite satisfied with it's performance. The carpet powerhead does very well on my rugs, and even does ok on hard floors. The hard floor attachment is more than a foot wide and makes quick work of the hard wood in my house but is so wide you have to switch it for the corner tool to get around most furnature. I was impressed with the suction from the vacuum, even before I noticed that I only had it turned up half way :) So I'll try to sum up the pros and cons.
Pro:
Cool looking
Nice cord length and roll up storage
Wide reach on the attachments
Small size of the canister
Does a good job of sucking up small stuff
Bags are just more than $1 each (for the standard bags)
Easily turn on and off the roller on the power head
Both the hard floor attachment, and the power head easily go under beds and couches
Con:
Hard to deteach the hose from the canister for storage
Power head won't work on bath mats
I'll post again in a few months when I see how it's holding up.

Exceptional performance, modern design, and brilliant color combine in this simple-to-use canister vacuum cleaner. The unit's power head offers a separate motor to drive thorough carpet cleaning, which can be witnessed through the clear window, and a low profile for easy access under nearly any kind of furniture. Quickly switch between carpets and hard floors by controlling the brush roll using fingertip controls--no need to bend and stoop to get the perfect kind of clean. Also, suction power control on the handle helps with specialty above-the-floor cleaning such as drapery and furniture. On-board tools for above-the-floor cleaning consist of an upholstery brush, a dusting brush, a crevice tool, and a caddy.
In addition, the vacuum provides the freshest, cleanest house possible with its long-life HEPA H12 filtration system, which makes the air coming out even cleaner than the air going in. Its superior filtration system captures 99.97-percent of dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns. Plus, it uses the new auto-close system of the Electrolux s-bag, which prevents dust from escaping when changing the 2-quart-capacity bag. Every part of the vacuum, in fact, comes tightly sealed so no dirty air can escape. Other highlights include electronic speed control, a super silent motor, an electronic "full" dust-bag indicator, and an ergonomic design. Even more, with a durable brush roll and long-life belt, there's minimal maintenance over the life of the cleaner. The 1400-watt canister vacuum cleaner measures 9-1/2 by 12 by 18 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

- Weight: 22.8 lbs (16.9 without power head). Kenmore is 21.5 lbs (16.3)
- Floor Brush: Electrolux is 60 % wider (13.7" vs 8.5") (but suction is less concentrated)
- Both Kenmores died after 5.5 years. Will Electrolux last longer?Worse:
* Cord is only 20.3 ft long (Kenmore is 30% longer. 26.5 ft. Very handy.)
* Dust bag is 40% smaller (appx 180 vs 300 cu. in.) (More expense, more hassle)
* Hose is flimsy (Big difference vs Kenmore) (and replacement is $47)
* Lacks swivel hose mount on base unit. (Hose kinks and will eventually crack)
* Power switch is on the base, not the handle. (and is easily confused with the cord-retract button)
* Floor brush can't be stored on-board (Small nozzle & furniture brush store on the wand handle)
* Generic nozzles won't fit. Must buy Electrolux.
- Manual is less useful. Fewer tips & troubleshooting details. Doesn't include full parts diagram & part numbers. Electrolux provides fewer product specifications at their Web site.
I am comparing to a 2005 Kenmore mid-range vac. Current models may differ.
Check reviews for the Panasonic MC-CG902 Canister Vacuum Cleaner. It's about identical to the mid-range Sears Kenmore canister vac.
Summary: A good vac with lots of flaws: 3.5 stars.

Hoover Duros Power Nozzle Canister Vacuum, Bagged, S3590 Review

Hoover Duros Power Nozzle Canister Vacuum, Bagged, S3590

my wife had been looking around, for a good while at different styles and types of vacuums. she has tried the bagless styles and was very displeased with them. after many considerations (oreck, kirby and etc.), she chose to try this one. after using it for several weeks, she has stated that she was very glad that we bought his one. i, myself, was totally surprized at the quality of this hoover. it's very well built (not flimsy like most other vacuums at this price), very easy to move around, and has very strong suction power. my wife likes the way that the wands fit together easily, without the cord being in the way (the cord that dangles from most vacuums with the power nozzles) and the fact that you don't have to change one nozzle to another (rug to bare floor) to finish vacuuming, just push the bar from rug to floor and it's done. the only thing that my wife didn't care for was that two of the attachements tools are stored on the wand, which does at times, come off when bumped against something. But other then that, she is very happy with this vacuumm. we have many pets (six all together) that are inside which my wife has to vacuum at least four to five times a week (with all the shedding) and she feels that this vacuum will do the job for a long time (we average about a vacuum every 2 years due to the constant use). over all, with it's sturdy built, power, and user-friendly abilities, we give this vacuum 5 stars!!!!!michael and penny smith

Hoover Platinum Cyclonic Canister Vacuum with Power Nozzle, Bagless, S3865 Review

Hoover Platinum Cyclonic Canister Vacuum with Power Nozzle, Bagless, S3865
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To start, I should mention that I'm hard on vacuums. We have different flooring types, multiple levels in the house, animals, long hair and children, as well as living in a never ending construction zone in the center of allergy alley. Thus, I need a fairly heavy performing vacuum that manages flooring transitions as well as being able to do stairs and furniture.
If that weren't asking a lot already, I need it to be heavy enough to be multifiltered and high powered, but light enough that I can tote it up the stairs.
I've had the Platinum Hoover Canister for a 3 months now, and I've been pleased with the performance. This one replaced a previous Windtunnel, and while I miss a few things from the old version (like different power settings), all in all, the new version outperforms the older version.
Pros:
Suction is fantastic. Transitioning from area rugs to hardwoods and then to carpet is easy. Super long power cord lets you do multiple areas without having to unplug and replug. Filters, filters, filters. Allergies in the house have become noticeably better with this unit. It's a lot more quiet that previous versions. Powerhead is fantastic for getting critter hair off the furniture and drapes. Reset button on the main head is a wonderful thing, if like me, you have ninja shoelaces in unlikely places; such as those cleverly hidden by small children who have kicked their shoes under the couch. Almost no dust escapes the vacuum while it is running, and while it is all in one unit...but that leads us to the cons...
Cons:
Emptying this vacuum is not for the wheezy. You will get dirty, you will have a cloud of dust, you will curse yourself and the Hoover engineers if you make the mistake of emptying it in the house. Trust me on this one. The only good way to empty it is to take the canister out to your big trash can, standing upwind and praying.
As well, the canister has collection areas that cannot be touched, washed or otherwise cleaned. I realize that the engineering design behind this was to keep the user away from the dirt, but it also means that if something gets caked in there, like if you clean on a humid day...you're kinda hosed. (No pun intended....ok, a *little* intended.) It's as though the engineers had *seen* someone use a vacuum, but didn't actually vacuum anything themselves, and so hadn't quite worked through the final step of cleaning the vacuum itself.
Still, the minor inconvenience of what I think is a poor engineering decision on that one part, is outweighed by the performance, the price point, and the significant reliability that I've gotten from other Hoover products.
For a neat person with a small space, this vacuum is probably overkill...but for large houses filled with dirt tracking children and animals...this vac is a clear winner in it's price range.

Eureka ReadyForce Bagged Canister Vacuum, 900A Review

Eureka ReadyForce Bagged Canister Vacuum, 900A

I have been looking at canister vacs for a long time. I bought one, hated it (the floor attachment kept falling off, the filter kept clogging), and ended up returning it. I am pleasantly surprised by this little machine...the suction is great, it's not too loud, doesn't clog, and it's lightweight. Plus the price is right!! I was looking into getting a miele until I found this. I use this at my vacation home (a 60 year old ranch home that produces a LOT of dust) where all the floors are hardwood or tile and I have an area rug. The vac works fairly well on the area rug, too. The handle feels much more solid than the previous machine I had and doesn't fall apart. And I actually prefer the bag to the bagless version I previously had. It is so much easier to change the bag than pull out a canister and have dust flying everywhere. I highly recommend this for someone who has a lot of hardwood floors and wants to get up ALL the dust on the floors, in the corners, under the sofas!!!

Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum Review

Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Despite the fact that the Dysons have never been a top pick on Consumer Reports (even though they consistently rate high for brand reliability), I went ahead and purchased the DC23 Turbinehead from Target for $399.
As people often find when purchasing a new vacuum, they pick up a lot of dust and dirt in the carpet that their old vacuum left behind. Mainly because most older vacuums just lose suction even if you replace the filters and maintain all the parts. I find that to be frustrating and disappointing, and that's mainly one of the reasons that I went with the Dyson -- I'm hoping it lives up to their tagline (Never Loses Suction).
The suction on the DC23 is good. The turbine head attachment spins quickly and pulls in cat litter and other little particles in the carpet. I was revolted by the giant thick dust ball I picked up in just one bedroom with the first use. The DC23 does it's job well. So here's the run down of what I like and don't like about this model:
Likes
-Excellent suction, vacuums well. Easily picks up all the cat hair and cat litter I throw at it.
-Small, light weight and portable
-Beautifully designed -- it's shocking to look at this model next to all the Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and Bissells of the world that look like something straight out of the 80's. Also glad they are moving away from the yellow plastic!
-Easy to empty dust bin, no bags
-Because of the small head, this vacuum can go where most uprights cannot -- under beds and tables.
Dislikes
-It's a little expensive, however, will be well worth it if it actually lasts a long time without losing suction
-Storage is a little flimsy -- the hose just sort of hangs out off of the vacuum and the head attachment very loosely attaches to the canister base.

Delivering 220 airwatts of suction power, this canister vacuum cleaner features advanced Level 3 Root Cyclone technology to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. It also offers a TurbineHead brush bar that's ideal for cleaning medium and short pile carpets and can be turned off for hard floors. Certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, the unit expels air that contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air thanks to the vacuum's money-saving, lifetime washable HEPA filter. Plus, Dyson's Bactisafe screen traps and kills bacteria, mold and allergens on contact, preventing them from re-entering the air.
The Telescopic Wrap System allows the hose and wand to be compressed, and ensures that the Dyson DC23 can be stored away neatly and compactly, with no loose components or wires to get tangled. It comes with a stair tool for focusing on dust and dirt from stairs and stair carpets, a brush tool with long bristles to dislodge cobwebs and for delicate cleaning, and a high-velocity airflow crevice tool that's ideal for cleaning base boards, picture frames and in-between furniture. Other features include a clear bin with 0.44-gallon capacity, 21.6-foot cord length, and easy-to-maneuver fixed wheels. The vacuum measures 13.9 x 19.3 x 11.9 inches (HxWxD) and weighs 19.5 pounds. Eureka 3670G Boss Mighty Mite Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Eureka 3670G Boss Mighty Mite Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When trying to decide if this model (3670G) was the right vacuum for me, I found a considerable amount of confusing information regarding it's features on the internet..and from the manufacturer itself. First of all, many online retailers flat out state (inaccurately) that this model has a "HEPA" (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter and at least one of the reviews for it here on Amazon (at least as of this writing) seems to indicate that it has one as well. I can tell you outright that having checked with the manufacturer directly and now owning one myself that it does *NOT* have a "HEPA" filter. More on that a little later in this review however.
I found another confusing aspect of the description is in the model number (i.e. 3670G). Be careful to understand the difference between what Amazon calls the 3670 (also called the 3670A in some places) and the 3670*G* models. They look identical and appear to be identical (both are yellow and black) however the 3670 only has a 9 amp motor and the 3670G has the larger, 12 amp motor. Amazon carries both models and I almost ended up buying the smaller one thinking it was the same vacuum. For only about a $5-$10 difference in total price, I'm not sure why the smaller version is even offered. It only seems to confuse the matter. The 3670 also does *NOT* have the "HEPA" filter incidentally.
I found the 3670G to be an excellent value however and am pleased with my purchase. It is compact, very powerful and great for my needs. The noise...while high...is quite tolerable and not at all excessive considering how well it cleans. The generously long cord wraps easily around the base for storage and while a retractable cord would have been extremely useful, not having one is a reasonable trade-off in keeping the price down. The blower port feature is very handy for cleaning my computer insides (by blowing away dust without contacting electrical components as vacuuming would risk doing).
The 3670G *does* require bags. It is not a "bagless" model however and while some may prefer a bagless model, I preferred a model that used bags. The bags are very easy to change on this model and not that much of an additional expense for what I consider to be the additional convenience (of being able to easily remove and dispose of a bag).
The only reason I gave this model 4 stars and not 5 was because I did not find the attachment brushes quite adequate. Three attachment tools are included, a crevice tool, a 10" floor tool and a combination tool with a triangularly-shaped brush (about 2" wide) on the end. The combination tool also flips over to double as brushless pick-up (3" wide).
In my opinion, this cleaner badly needs a mid-sized brush and/or pick up tool that is about 4-5" wide. The 2" wide combination tool brush does concentrate the suction into a small area for high power but being only 2" wide, I found that I simply had to move it much too frequently on larger surfaces (such as a wall for example) in order to cover the area needed. I would have rated this vacuum 5 stars if a brush about 4-5" wide had been included. As it is, I am searching for an optional brush that size to purchase extra.
Finally, a comment about the "HEPA" filter. Some people (particularly those with allergies or who need extremely dust free air) may want cleaners that include this item. In my case, I did not want this since I don't need it and "HEPA" filters can be quite expensive to change and replace (unless you get a washable one...also expensive). Since many online descriptions I found were unclear whether the 3670G included this filter (some descriptions flatly stated that it does), I found myself calling the Eureka customer service number to find out for sure.
It turned out that even Eureka's own customer service representative was unsure whether it contained the filter or not and had to take some considerable time to find out that it didn't have one. If you *do* want the "HEPA" filter, you would want the 3684D...which looks the same but is red in color, slightly more expensive, and has more and better quality attachments as well as the "HEPA" filter. By the time you add in the cost of an optional additional attachment (which I mentioned earlier that I think is needed on the 3670G), you are at the price of a 3684D. In that case, the 3684D may well be a better value for you, particularly if you like the "HEPA" filter.
Overall, I think "The Boss" series of canister vacuums is a great product. Eureka (and Amazon as well) needs to do a much better job of clarifying the differences between the particular models in the series however.
