(More customer reviews)I ordered this product hoping to use it to remove some marker stains from my daughter's carpet. However, once it arrived, the bottle says not to use it on fabric! This is only for hard surfaces. I would think anyone buying something from Kirby would assume it was for carpet. I'm sure it's a lovely product, but I wanted a product for my carpet. It should specify in the description.

(More customer reviews)Totally agree with other reviewer... the product was dirty, batteries had leaked and the feed tube was clogged. They must have found these way deep back somewhere in a crappy warehouse. I don't know if it was the seller "Amazing Deals Online" or the shipper... Amazon, but come on guys... this is ridiculous...
I gave it two stars because the actual liquid inside is good.
Rather than deal with return shipping, I decided to see if I could fix it, and I did. For the benefit of anyone else who wound up with these things....
Pull out the old leaked batteries and scrape off the residue to get to the bare metal on the battery contacts.
Put in new batteries.
Remove the top to get to the feed tube.
Soak the feed tube in warm water for a while then try spraying. If you still get noise but no spray.... You can try using a needle to clean the pickup tube or you can force liquid through under pressure.
Once it was working, the spray worked great and the carpets are now protected. Still like I said, you SHOULD NOT have to go through this.

My only disappointment was that I received the "white" bottle - which is the UNSCENTED shampoo. The image for the product has the "blue" lavender scented product, which I really like. So I expect to receive Scented Allergen Carpet Shampoo, but instead got something different. It's like ordering Brown shoes, but getting white ones in the mail. I would have returned for an exchange, but the carpet really needed cleaned so I just used it. Next time I won't order unless the description says "scented".

(More customer reviews)I went with this brand because my son is slowly working on his crawling skills and tends to scoot himself face down. I would rather not have toxic chemical residue from the regular carpet shampoos on his face and in his mouth. It did a good job cleaning my (fairly clean already) light colored carpet and smells quite nice. However, I was a tad disappointed. It is NOT 40:1. The instructions say to use 1.5 to 2.5 oz per gallon of water. I went with the 1.5 and there is no way this bottle will do 3 average sized rooms; I just did my dining nook and small living room and used over half the bottle. If you have medium to large rooms, get more than one bottle.

DO NOT BUY THIS unless you are planning to throw away your carpet, especially if it's light-colored. I thought some new technology had been invented that allowed soap to be dried on and then vacuumed up. But a few days after using it, there were even bigger & nastier stains than before. HORRIBLE PRODUCT! Between all the water, time, and effort expended to get my carpet clean in the spots where I used it, this thing is STILL costing me a fortune. Months later and after 2 self-cleanings, I am still rinsing soap from my carpet.

(More customer reviews)I have done research on cleaning solutions of all kinds for 25 yrs. Joe Campanelli's Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning solution is by far the BEST I have ever found. I've compared it's ability to clean a carpet and "stay clean" in side by side tests with other leading products(I used a Bissell Quick steamer with hot water for the testing) . Joe Campanelli's cleaned better, the water extracted from the area was much dirtier. After 2 weeks I repeated the process with all products in the same areas they were used before. The water extracted from the area using Joe Campanelli's Cleaner was cleaner than any of the other areas. I recommend ONLY this product.

I attempt to clean at least every 6 months (though I aim for every 3-4) but the carpets are still in decent shape thanks to Kirby! (More customer reviews)I have tried, on a number of different occasions, a few of the Hoover carpet detergents: The lesser expensive Hoover Deep Cleansing detergent (a very nice all-purpose detergent), the Hoover Premium Pet Formula (great scent), and the (more expensive) Hoover Platinum Pet Plus. They are ALL great carpet cleaning detergents... but I would have to confess that I didn't find a huge cleaning difference between the Deep Cleansing and the Premium Pet Formula (I would favor the Pet Formula over the Deep Cleansing -- the Pet Formula has a lovely powdery scent and little bit more cleaning power that's worth an extra couple of bucks, I think).
All of that said, the Platinum Pet Plus detergent... whoa, that was a BIG cut above the rest. Twice the price, but twice the performance. It's a killer price-wise for me -- I can use an entire bottle of the stuff on just one good-sized room (we have a lot of dogs free-roaming our house plus we live in a rural mountain/country environment). But, if you compare it with the expense of professional carpet cleaning, or the cost to replace a room of carpet, a few extra bucks on the Platinum Pet Plus detergent is a great alternative when you have a seriously soiled carpet. In the end, I think I'll spring for the Platinum Pet Plus when the carpets are really THAT bad (more often than I'd like to confess to) or for a semi-annual cleaning, and then use the Premium Pet Formula for in-between light maintenance. If money were no object, I'd buy the Platinum Pet Plus every time. It's that good.

(More customer reviews)From the other reviews, I expected a lot. I previously used Hoover's "Deep Cleansing" detergent (green bottles).
I didn't see a difference between the results I previously got and now with this "Platinum" and "Professional-Strength" version. I even used this product at double strength on high-traffic areas. The particularly dirty areas needed a second-pass; the spots I missed with a pre-treating spray were still there.
Since the "Deep Cleansing" detergent is available in 128oz bottles for about the same price as this 50oz bottle, I recommend the "Deep Cleansing" detergent.
Note: I used boiling hot water with a "Hoover F5912900 TurboPower 5200 SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge". I followed the tips from the reviews for the SteamVac and was very happy with the deep cleaning results from the SteamVac. I know my one-star review for this detergent is an anomaly from the other reviews, but using the exact same SteamVac and methods, but with different detergent, I saw that this "Professional-Strength" product costs more but did not perform better than the "Deep Cleansing" detergent. I don't think any other reviews point this out (at least not strongly enough -- I mean, twice the amount of cleaning power for the same price is a big deal, at least to me).
