(More customer reviews)I was anxious to test the Easy Step II on my 11-year old German Shepherd mix who has a back problem. Even though I ordered it, I was afraid that it would only be suitable for a small dog. I had been using a ramp to have my dog, Rusty get in and out of my station wagon, however the ramp was too heavy for me to use regularly, and it took up a lot of space in the car.
The Easy Step II is perfect for Rusty. I used a treat to lead him up and down the steps the first couple of times. Also, I wanted to make sure that he didn't try to jump out of the back of the station wagon without using the Easy Step, so I put the Easy Step all the way to one side of the station wagon, and blocked the open space with my body.After that, I did the body block and just pointed to the steps. It was very stable, and he was very comfortable going up and down the steps. He took to it right away, and it is much lighter than the ramp.
A dog walker friend stopped by and tested it with a small dog he had with him. We set it up by the back passenger seat, and the small dog went in and out of the back seat very easily. I'm very happy with the product.
As for the assembly, at first it was hard to put it together, but the directions suggested coating the plastic dowels with liquid detergent, and that made a big difference. I was able to assemble it in a matter of minutes.
