(More customer reviews)I needed a good working, and affordable vac to clean up my small college dorm room's carpet (It's not a very plush carpet). This vac surprised me! So far it's been working out fantastic! The long handle is detachable and so is the top head so you can convert it into the familiar dust buster. It's small enough to store under a bed in a dorm room. It has a pointed wand attachment too. This certainly isn't something you would want to use as a main vac for a house, but it's great for the dorm. The cord length seems to work great for my 16'x12' dorm room--so it does NOT operate as a cordless, so no worries about the battery dying out on you. It's bagless so the canister has to be emptied...
which brings me to my only complaint about it... everything seems to get stuck to the filter... hair, dust and dirt... so it's not just a matter of emptying the canister. You have to pick everything off the filter, and it has a tendency to get inverted so you have to pull it out to clean it good. So my suggestion is to clean it over an open trash can... and for the dust you just can't seem to pick off, use a lint roller on the filter and it seems to clean it up well. (which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5)
Otherwise, great vac for the price paid (Approximately $20 at Wal-mart).

Vacuumed my carpet which had already been vacuumed earlier today by my other vacuum and was surprised at how much more this vacuum picked up. But when the vacuum roller hits the rug, it makes a laboring sound. When it is not making contact with the rug, it sounds normal. Loud but normal. I'm not sure if this is the way it should sound because that means labor on the motor and the belts. I'll have to call them as ask about that. Also, the manual tells you to replace the filter yearly (yea right!). But, for the heck of it, I ran a search to find out how much they cost and no one sells the F43. NOT EVEN DIRT DEVIL. They have something called f43 filter assembly under the product parts at the Dirt Devil site but no picture so I don't now if it includes the filter or just the housing. So I ran a search at Dirt Devil under hepa filters for that filter number (F43) but nothing comes up. In the list of Hepa filters, it jumps from F39 to F45 . I'm gonna call customer care Monday morning and see what's up with that too. Otherwise, it's back to Target for a refund.

We don't have wall-to-wall, but from what I can tell, if you have lots of carpets I would recommend moving up to the Oxygen model. It does not come with a powered carpet attachment. Gotta work a bit to clean carpets - glides easily on hardwood. Stores in small places. Great design and easy to use; instructions are a bit weak. Overall happy, great in a small city house/apartment.

(More customer reviews)Sure I expected a new vacuum to clean my carpet better, but what I didn't expect was for my rug to look five years younger afterwards! My matted carpet was in pretty bad shape and I had little hope of it lasting much longer until I couldn't stand looking at it anymore. But after a good cleaning with this Sanitaire S782 I was very happy to see that my rug seemed to have new life in it and frankly looked like the rug was 5 years younger. I am simply amazed.
Dual motors allow for stopping the direct drive brush assembly going over hardwood floors while still providing lots of suction power which is also good for vacuuming the edges of scatter rugs so they don't get sucked up into the roller. And if something does get caught in the roller the motor shuts off instantly and automatically and you just have to hit the reset button after clearing.
This machine uses bags that are inexpensive and is rated at lightweight commercial use. It's fairly light at 14 pounds, and I like the folding handle making it easy to store away. The only con seems to be the high pitched motor noise which is annoying but I am already getting used to it.
After feeling like I was in a maze of new vacuum options I feel I made a really good choice without spending a fortune.

(More customer reviews)I was impressed with other Shark products enough to buy this vacuum to replace an Oreck. First of all this vacuum weighs more than the Oreck and has a smaller head and is noisier, but to its credit, costs less. As another reviewer said, the true test of this vacuum is whether it will last more than 13 months. Well, it is just shy of 7 1/2 months and this vacuum just died. It was preceded by a very loud sound coming from the motor but was not the result of running over or trying to pick up any large objects. It happened with normal use. When calling the customer service, it was obvious I was talking to Asia. The person belabored the fact that I needed to be sure that the electricity was working in my house. He then informed me that I'd need to ship it insured, all at my expense to N.C., and then spend $16.99 to have it fixed despite its alleged 5 year warranty. Sorry, but this product just doesn't last with normal use and their warranty and customer service leave much to be desired. There will be no more Shark products in my household and my friends and family and Amazon will learn of the fact that I cannot recommend it or other Shark products.

I wanted to be able to have the carpet look nice all the time without dragging out the big vacuum. This product works and meets my need. However, I bought it in March and it is now June and it seems a bit worn out. It was quiet and now it is loud. It sounds like it is breaking down....it doesnt hold a charge as long anymore but it still works. My baby is crawling now and it keeps all the little choking hazards up. I feel like it won't last much longer but I am thankful I have it right now.

(More customer reviews)I have 2 cats in a small apartment, and fur and litter are a HUGE problem. I used to have a stick vacuum that didn't work at all for either and barely picked up any dirt. This vacuum is leaps and bounds better than that one. I got it at a department store on sale for $180 tax included, and it came with 12 HEPA bags (approximately a 2 year supply). My apartment looked disgusting for 2 years before I finally could afford to buy a new vacuum, and since I couldn't afford a $600 Dyson, this was the perfect solution.

(More customer reviews)This attaches to the vacuum hose attachment just fine (i.e., no loss of suction), but there isn't enough power there to keep the roller going. I bought this to use with rugs and on the couch. For the couch it's OK, but on rugs the roller will just stop turning unless you keep it moving. I got a different kind of brush (one by Eureka) and I don't have this same problem. I suspect that the roller unit is just too big so it doesn't maintain good suction. What I really want/need is a tool like this that is driven by a separate motor. i thought this would work and i'd do it on the cheap, but I got what I paid for, which is to say I got poor results.

This little vac is extremely quiet and lightweight, and picks up even cat litter and cooked rice! It does not clean the edges near the wall or corners well; that is its only drawback. I end up having to use a broom to sweep the edges and corners into the middle of the room. Most of our messes are in the main part of the floor, so it is not a huge deal to us. We have had it for two weeks and use it daily and are still on the initial battery charge. I also like the adjustable length of the handle since my husband and I are both tall.
So far, it has been a great purchase. It sure makes cleanup fast and easy.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to clean my laminate wood floors. I wanted something that wouldn't kill my back, was light weight, and didn't tear up my floor. This fits the bill. It is not as powerful as my upright Hoover but it's more convenient. The cord retracts which is nice. It has onboard tools and in a flash I can get into the corners and baseboards with the hose. It picks up pretty good but lint gets stuck on the little bottom wheels. Also, it is ESSENTIAL the filter be cleaned often otherwise it doesn't pick up well. The filter is easy to clean; I just take it out back and hose it off. I paid $50 for it and think it's worth it. Just be sure and clean the filter and don't expect a regular vaccum in this little guy.

(More customer reviews)I just moved into an apartment with a new synthetic carpet that sheds like a pack of afghan hounds; it choked my bagless vacuum in under a minute. I needed a sturdy, no-frills, bagged vacuum like the Montgomery Ward upright I used for over 20 years before it died.
This model was almost identical, and now that I've had it for a few weeks, I'm happy as a clam. It has an old-fashioned rotating brush/beater roller, 5 carpet height adjustments, great suction for 5 amps, and comes pre-fitted with a humongous disposable liner bag (type F&G), plus a spare belt for the roller. Some parts that used to be steel have been replaced with thick plastic, but it seems plenty sturdy, and it's much lighter to maneuver and carry than my old all-steel model. The on/off button and lock/unlock for the handle are both on the base, so they're foot controls; carpet height is adjusted by a dial on the front of the base. The long cord (20 feet or so) doesn't retract, you just wind it over hooks on the handle. The spring-attached fabric bag has a full-length zipper, inside which the disposable bag (which fills the cover from end to end) slides on with another spring. Quick, simple.
One pass with this puppy picked up enough carpet fluff missed by the bagless to knit a throw rug, but there's still plenty of room left for future dirt. It's also a lot less noisy than my smaller bagless. The only qualm I had in buying this was the lack of attachments for cleaning upholstery & suchlike, but I found an inexpensive accessory kit made for it (crevice tool, round dust brush, upholstery brush, extension tubes, looooong flexible hose) right here on Amazon: the "Electrolux Home Care 60E 6-Piece Deluxe Tool Set," so my joy is complete.
Though the image on this page looks rather green, the vacuum is actually jet black, and the bag is a black-white-red random print. It comes in a flat box, minor assembly required. Highly recommended for those who remember how good the old vacuums were, don't want to spend a fortune just to clean their carpets, or are into retro styling.

(More customer reviews)Here's my situation. I have a cat box in my bathroom and I really didn't like sweeping the kitty litter up every day - the broom would kick up dust and I would invariably miss a bit of kitty litter.
I needed something small, light that I could drag out and buzz around the bathroom (hard surface) with. This fits the bill perfectly. It's not exactly quiet, but not too bad either.
I don't like the rechargeable stick vacs because my closet doesn't have a power outlet and I really don't want to leave it out and look at the thing. In addition, corded stick vacs tend to be more powerful and don't run down, but you do have to put up with a cord.
This stick vac is basically a dustbuster with a telescopic handle and a detachable (bare) floor nozzle. It is not going to compete with a regular vacuum, but for light cleanup (e.g. kitty litter) it works just fine. I also use it on the low-pile carpeting just outside the bathroom door to pick up any stray kitty litter and it gets most of it. I don't think you'd want to use it on thicker pile carpeting or for large areas especially considering the floor nozzle has no brush roller - it really is designed for hard floors.
It does what I need -- no more kicking up dust and no more kitty litter in the bathroom (I use it every day). I am happy with my purchase.

(More customer reviews)I wanted to give it a 4 1/2 but the site wouldn't let me. This is such a great vacuum because it is so maneuverable and can get under and around places so easily, even hard to reach areas. It has a setting for floors so that the brush doesn't rotate. It is powerful and does a thorough job. I do my whole 1200 square foot house with it, but since the filter is small, I empty it when I'm done. It has some drawbacks.
1. One of the cord windup hooks broke so now the cord is difficult to wind. I just wrap it around the vacuum.
2. The cord could be just a couple feet longer.
3. You have to position it just right if you want to stand it upright. Sometimes it's fallen over (No big deal though).

Bissell Rewind SmartClean Bagless Upright Vacuum, 58F8 Review

(More customer reviews)As I stated above this model is an updated version of the Bissell Cleanview Deluxe. I had that vacuum and was sad to give it up in an out of state move. Since my move (I couldn't find another Cleanview to purchsae at that time) I bought a cheap Dirt Devil Extreme Quick vac to get by (with a HEPA filter) and it served me well but would fill up too quickly and lose suction with cat fur and a lot of long human hair. I had been looking to find an updated version of the Cleanview and *poof* recently the SmartClean appeared on amazon before I found it anywhere else. I purchased it without hesitation.
I couldn't wait to get this out of the box and try it out. So far I like it a lot. Felt a bit more bulky than the Cleanview I had, but has the familiar handling. This Bissell added a few features, the retractable cord winder is nice, but I find that it retracts slightly while I vacuum which is a pretty minor annoyance. Suction is great and the included attachments are nice--same as the old Cleanview (powerprush, crevice tool, extender, and upholstery tool. There is a bit more air filtering than the Cleanview but has the same Dirt sensor "red light green light" which makes vacuuming more fun/productive. I simply couldn't believe the dust/pet dander that this vacuum picked up the first time I used it that the Dirt Devil had been missing. HEPA filter is great and necessary for my allergies. For the price range this vacuum is a great purchase, I hope to keep it for a while.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this vacuum when I got tired of lugging out the big vac to keep up with dog hair and kid crumbs. Sweeping just made things worse by making the dog hair fly around instead of helping.
So, solution...a lightweight cordless vac WITH a small duster for sofas. This vacuum has been perfect for our family. The battery lasts long enough (10-15 minutes) for me to relatively thoroughly clean the kitchen floor and then the other 3 rooms that are wood floors. The dog hair and crumbs are picked up between thorough floor cleanings which is exactly the thing I needed. The removeable "dustbuster" is perfect for crumbs and hair on furniture and in tighter corners. This vacuum is not meant to be the end all vacuum for your house. It is perfect for the 1-2 times a day you may want to keep doghair and crumbs in check. I leave this vacuum in the laundry room plugged is so it is always ready to go.
There is an unexpected added bonus...my boys LOVE to use it! It is the perfect weight and height (with the handle down) for kids! They get it out and put it away on their own. I rarely let them sweep with a broom because it just made more work for me, but now I have to keep them from fighting over it:)
So, if dog hair and dirt acculumate quickly in your house and you dread pulling out the big vac to keep up and sweeping frustrates you, this is the vacuum for you.

(More customer reviews)I wanted a lightweight, compact vacuum to use every evening after dinner on the kitchen floor. Our regular vac was too bulky to pull out for quick jobs, and we didn't have a spot to charge a cordless. I settled on the Featherweight because it was small enough to hang from my mop rack and only cost $20.
This vac is ideal for picking up dust and pet hair on wood or tile floors. However, I've found that with larger, heavier items (such as spilled dog food), the vac often has to be lifted up over the item and placed right down on top of it in order to pick it up; if I just push the vacuum over dog food, it often just pushes the dog food in front of the vacuum head instead of sucking it up. Removing the vac head and using this as a hand vac works much better for picking up dog food and the like.
I've also found that items about the size of a marble (again, spilled dog food) get jammed right behind the plastic shield covering the intake opening of the vac. To remove them I need to jam a stick back there, loosen the item and then pry it out. This is a pain in the neck that I really don't need.
Finally, there's no way to clean the dust off the filter without using your bare hands; this vac really needed just a tiny brush that attached to the unit to make dusting off the filter easier and neater. As it is, after every use I need to pull clumps of dog fur off the filter with my bare fingers - yuck!
I think that once this breaks (as I'm sure it will - it's made of quite junky plastic and doesn't seem all that durable) I'll go out and spend a bit more money on a higher quality stick vac. However, for $20 this little cheapie picks up the messes and doesn't take up too much space.
