(More customer reviews)With the addition of the 912967-03 hard floor tool, this vacuum is perfect for cleaning hardwood floors. By itself, it is very well designed for cleaning stairs. It is designed to sit on the stairs. All swivels on the hose and tools promote ease of handling and keeping the tool flat on the floor for maximum pick-up. The ONLY disadvantage I have seen to this, is that the power button is on the cannister itself, requiring returning to the cannister to power on/off. Maybe the model with the power head has controls on the hose?

In our one story home we used a Kenmore brand upright which we still have and after 8 years of use it still works very well. Our dilemma is with the two story house and stairway. We went from a 2,400 sqft home to a 4,700 sqft home. Lugging the good old Kenmore up and down the stairs and covering all the nooks and crannies, including the stairway, is quite a workout. My wife and daughter rely on me to move the vac when it's time to clean.
So I sought out reviews on a backback vac, after all that's what the commercial cleaners use right. Consumer Reports only covers canisters and uprights and all other reviews covered commercial applications, so not a lot of homeowner info to go by. So what do you do? Make the plunge and hope it works.
Well after two cleanings we are VERY impressed! This think sucks and we can vacuum the house in half the time it takes with our upright. Besides carpet we have wood and tile floors plus a pet that, unfortunately, sheds. We can vacuum quicker than using a broom and dustpan. This thing is great and as quite (by vacuum standards) as our Kenmore. We have stressed wood floors, ceramic and natural stone tiled floors along with looped carpeting. I suggest getting the optional wood floor 14" attachment and the floor duster (has a cloth mitt) for wood shutters or blinds... yes it cleans them as well.
A little cumbersome at first getting this to fit on your back but once you're set tell people to get out of your way... you will be done in no time! By the way most of our neighbors use cleaning services. We're cheap and prefer to do it ourselves at our convenience. That's how we justified the cost.

(More customer reviews)I have to admit I was skeptical at first because of the lukewarm "professional" reviews of Dyson in general, but now I'm a true convert. I LOVE this vacuum (coming from someone that HATES housecleaning).
Pros
--Canister style vacuum-great for those of us with back problems that can't push around a heavy upright for long.
--Suction power-WONDERFUL suction on this thing.
--Power brushes-stiff bristles "refresh" the carpet and can easily be turned off by foot controls (no bending down).
--Maneuverability-this has a ball style joint that makes it extremely maneuverable.
--Compact storage-it wraps around itself and is light enough to easily pick up and carry.
--No filters or belts to replace-just clean the built-in filter every 6 months with tap water.
--Quiet!-this is the quietest vacuum I've ever used.
--Retractable cord-guess this is standard on most canisters, but as a former upright user this is a nice feature to me.
--Low profile vacuum head-makes it easier to get under the couches, beds, etc.
--No bags to buy...ever!
--5 Year Warranty
Cons
--No headlight-funny I didn't realize how dark some of my corners are.
--Using attachments is a little awkward because of the larger, inflexible handle, but I imagine I'll get used to it.
--Short power cord-could definitely use a few more feet, but I suspect this was as long as they could fit into the compact unit.
--Power brushes-just a warning here, they're not for delicate carpets. They're rather stiff compared to most and I imagine could do some damage to older/thinner rugs.
--Small collection bin-available volume seems small due to the compact design, but it's EASY to empty, so not really a big problem.
--Price-it's not cheap, but I did find a 20% off coupon on-line for another store so saved $100.
There are enough cons that I can't give this vacuum 5 stars, but none of them are serious enough in my opinion to be major detractors. I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

When the vacuum cleaner is empty, clean air flows into the machine and out through the pores of the bag. However as soon as you start to use the machine the bag starts to fill with dust and debris. The bag acts as a filter and the machine starts to lose suction. This is because the pores of the bag begin to clog with the dust that the machine has picked up. I love that the floor cleaner pops in and out of the power brush. All the controls are at your fingertips. It is a little on the expensive side but with all the great features it is understandable. I got mine at Sears for a little less than Amazon wants. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is I wish it had more suction. There is a suction control but even with it closed all the way and turned up completely once in a while it isn't quite enough. I also wish it had more control when you are pulling the canister behind you but this is common with canisters. I would absolutely recommend this vacuum to anyone!

(More customer reviews)This may not be a good vacuum cleaner if your home is fully carpeted (the brush head is just plain useless on carpet), but my home has all wood and tile floors. This is easily the most powerful vacuum I've ever used.
The suction is so fierce, with a new bag you can lift a small child or pet directly off the floor. Any and all pet hair within a foot of the suction head is sucked directly into it.
The retract/extend feature of the wand is also handy, because the vacuum is easily stored in a coat closet. The wand locks into the bottom of the vacuum when it is standing vertically.
Filtration is incredible. I'll never use a filthy bagless vacuum again.
I'm not a particularly into home cleaning devices, but this vacuum is so bad*ss I just had to review it.

(More customer reviews)This little vacuum packs in power and innovative design. From the first try, I was amazed at the suction. The first time through the house I quickly filled the bag and had to change it. The Intensity pulled up all the little carpet fuzz on the 3-year-old carpet that my old vacuum could never get. It has more power than any other vacuum I've used.
The collapsing design is a nice feature. It folds up into a neat little package that fits easily on a closet floor without running into the coats. I love the controls on the top of the handle. You can go from bare floor to carpet with the touch of a button. The cord retracts nicely. The bag is easy to change, though a bit small, well, because the vacuum is small.
I discovered a nice fail-safe feature when I tried to finish the room when the full bag light was on. The vacuum shut off. I waited a bit to let it cool down, changed the bag, and it started right up. So pay attention to that light.
Overall, the design is fantastic. A couple improvements though would make it even better. For it's small size, light weight and those big wheels, it doesn't corner all that easily. The front is nice and flat and has an edge for going under cabinets, but since the front is the same width as the back, you can't go straight under cabinets. You have to go at an angle and keep adjusting the position. So making the front part a little wider than the back would make going under cabinets a breeze.
Also, if it didn't have that big carrying handle on the top of the canister, it would vacuum right under the bed. The handle isn't positioned well anyway for doing stairs, because when you hold it by the handle to maneuver on stairs, it's too back heavy and tips back. A handle placed a little farther back on the canister would solve that problem - and it would vacuum under the bed.
There are no attachments with this vacuum, but I prefer that it do it's job on the floors and I use a cordless vacuum for furniture, edging and stairs anyway.
Please don't write this vacuum off as a secondary, light-duty vacuum. Even though it's small, it's a full-duty whole house vacuum with plenty of suction.

(More customer reviews)I like this vacuum very much. It is small and light weight and has a longer than usual suction tube. We have mostly hard floors and the attachment for that works very well. Unlike others I've had in the past that just rattle over the surface ineffectively, this one actually works. I have had trouble with the wand detaching from the tube part and the attachment brush doesn't pivot on the wand, but these are small issues and I have adapted. Definitely worth the money.

(More customer reviews)I have been looking for a portable vacuum for my home for some time. We have hardwood and tile and was disappointed with the other canister vacuums we have used. Finding bags was a real hassle, the tools were cheaply made, the hoses were plastic, the cords too short ect. This vacuum is powerful, not to loud and is high quality. Metal wands,durable flexible hose and tools that are well made. The hose,wands and tools attach with ease and stay connected! I love the fact that you can hang it on your shoulder while cleaning versus of dragging it behind you and it tipping over. The long heavy duty cord is great because you can move about without having to constantly find an outlet. It comes with a reusable cloth bag which is a huge plus. One of the upholstery brushes (you get two)has a rubber comb along with soft brushes and it picked up the cat hair from our sofa with one swipe! I like that it doubles as a blower to keep my outdoor patio free of debris. Although it is tagged as a commercial vacuum, I highly recommend it for general home use!

Pros:
- Amazing suction: The amount of dirt and lint it sucks is incredible. Compared to my old hoover where I had to go over the carpet few times to suck out all the dirt, the DC23 is so powerful, I only have to run over the carpet once or twice and the carpet is clean. This is primarily due to the strong suction but also to the very powerful brush.
- I have very expensive and old rugs with tassels. When the motorized brush runs over the tassels, the brush shuts off. My old hoover vacuum would either gets intangled with the tassels or the rubber band connected to the motor would snap.
- It has a telescopic rod. When fully contracted, the DC23 is ideal for cleaning steps.

cons:
- VERY BIG WEAKNESS: The motorhead is so strong (a plus as I described above), it sucks in my delicate and fine rugs. Not only it sucks it in, but it's also stripping some of the threading from the 100 year old rugs. I wish Dyson had put a level to control the rotator head instead of just providing an on/off switch.
- Again, because of the strong suction, I'm having to empty the canister 3 or 4 types every time I vacuum my whole house, 2300sf. This is pretty minor actually but it was worth noting because my wife was complaining about it. I didn't seem to mind or care about having to empty out the canister frequently.

We don't have wall-to-wall, but from what I can tell, if you have lots of carpets I would recommend moving up to the Oxygen model. It does not come with a powered carpet attachment. Gotta work a bit to clean carpets - glides easily on hardwood. Stores in small places. Great design and easy to use; instructions are a bit weak. Overall happy, great in a small city house/apartment.

I have many unhappy vacuum experiences and thought was just fated to hate the product or spend big bucks. This one is just the ticket for me, on a budget but living in a kingdom of cobwebs and pet hair. I have vaulted ceilings with beams, and this is the first time I have not had to stand on a chair or lift the vacuum canister onto a counter to reach every nook and cranny. Long hose, long cord, very portable, and wow, it REALLY does adjust when you go from bare floor to carpet so that you don't get sucked down onto the carpet. The suction adjuster is easy to use, but I didn't even need it. Love the bare floor setting, which has little stiff brushes that loosen debris that might be a little stuck to the floor. I also have cabinets off the floor with space underneath, and this is the first time i have been able to easily reach all the way under cabinets and furniture with out having to assemble some sort of contraption or get under the furniture. Don't care about headlights, as long as I can get in and out under that couch! The cannister follows smoothly along, and because the hose is so long, I actually pull it less than with my last one--actually everything about it feels smooth. Wand is very easily adjustable and actually is long enough for a tall person to be comfortable. The accessory tool is very simplistic, but it does fit in the vacuum and I always seems to lose all those tools anyway. For someone who is happy with just a small round brush and a crevice tool, it's fine. If you want a lot of fancy accessories, you'll need to purchase them separately or look elsewhere. I have mostly bare floors, so I can't speak to its performance on carpet. But I'm happy to not have to contort to hold down the corners of area rugs to vacuum over them. I still hate vacuuming, but at least I am not having ranting fits about how much I hate the tool during the process.
Down side: The filster is supposedly washable, not sure about that. The bags are pretty small, but that is the trade off for having the canister be very portable. I have't bought any bags, but I may spend a fortune on them.

It's not loud like the others I looked at, it has many suction options, works fantastic on wood floors, tile and large area rugs. Another great thing is that it is light only 13lbs, easy to maneuver and it cleans SO WELL, you will not be disappointed with this vacuum.

Miele S2120 Delphi Canister Vacuum - Lotus White Review

(More customer reviews)First of all let me state that this is my first Miele vacuum. I've not laid hands on a Sebo, Riccar, or Miele (except briefly in a store) before receiving the Miele Delphi. In the past I bought what was cheap and hoped for the best. Lately I've changed that philosophy and research everything diligently. Consider in my review that I don't have experience with premium vacuums prior to this one (and even though it's at the bottom end of the price range I think $500 is premium for a vacuum cleaner).
This vacuum replaces a Kenmore upright that lasted 10 years. We were never really satisfied with it though. It's performance was mediocre and it always had belt problems. The beater was driven from the main motor by means of a cheap idler pulley arrangement (so that it could be disengaged for bare floors) which was a weak point. Like many uprights it was heavy and fell over easily when using attachments. Our house is 50/50 bare floors and low carpets. It did poorly on bare floors, particularly the tile in our bathrooms.
We use a vacuum to clean all the floors, upholstery, for dusting, and cleaning out the cars.
After a lot of research I decided on these priorities:
* Sealed system. Why clean if the dust is shooting out all over everything as you go?
* True power brush. Even though we have low carpets it was pretty clear that the combo tool would not cut it. Nor was I impressed with the turbo brush at the store. It's very convenient to flip a switch and go from carpet to bare floors. I realize that there are specific brushes for bare floors, and we may get one eventually, but they seem very expensive for what you get.
* Quality construction. Means a lot for me and I'm willing to pay for it. I'm practically an expert appliance repairman from working on all the junk appliances we bought for our new house 10 years ago. First world construction AND assembly is not everything, but it goes a long ways.
* HEPA was not a necessity. We don't have dust allergies. The ability to upgrade is a nice plus, but for now I just don't think we need it.
So why did I choose the Delphi?
If you are confused about Miele's model selection join the club. To sum the it up (canisters only):
S2 series, larger bags, powered and non-powered hose models tools mount on base of hose.
S4 series, smaller bags, non-powered hose models only, tools mount of base of hose.
S5 series, larger bags (same as S2), premium line, powered and non-powered hose models, tools mount inside.
Differences within the lines largely involve attachment packages and the type of controls on the vacuum itself.
Models with a non-powered hose cannot use power accessories. You cannot add a powered hose later. There are no provisions to power it. You are stuck with the turbo (air powered) brush heads only. As I said earlier I was not satisfied with the performance of those. All the new models with powered hoses have direct connect. That means when you connect the attachment the power plug is attached as well. There are no extra wires to connect. Some older models required extra wires which I would find inconvenient if you just wanted to change over the dusting brush for a quick second.
So on to the Miele Delphi:
The item arrived well packaged with clear documentation and only reasonable assembly required (~3 minutes, no tools). There are separate manuals for the power head and vacuum.
The included power head is the SEB 217-3. It is about 10 1/2" wide with no light bar. It is a couple inches narrower than the power head on most vacuums. Miele has a larger one available that would work on this vacuum for around $250.00 (half the cost of the entire thing). Consider that the wider the power head the more your suction is dispersed. As the suction on the Miele is excellent I think it could certainly power a wider head just fine, but unless you have a very large home I think it would be unnecessary. Probably more important to that decision is the type of carpet. The 217-3 is designed for lower nap carpets. It has no height adjustment. I suspect it would be very hard to push on higher carpets. On high suction it can get tough to push on medium to low carpets, so consider that if you have deep carpeting. It does well on bare floors and I run it at the highest setting for this. You can actually see the dust being pulled under from a couple inches out front of the head.
The head has a swiveling attachment and as such it is very maneuverable. It also lays nearly flat, but not completely so, for getting under things. The head itself is very low profile so I can get under things I couldn't before. The wand appears of very high quality stainless and the plastic latches for extension and connection appear of similar high quality and function.
The so called "deluxe" handle has a single switch for the power head which is a necessary convenience. I would not consider one without this. A second switch to power the vacuum on and off would have been a nice addition, but it's not a necessity.
They claim the power hose is crush proof and strong enough to support the weight of the vacuum plus some but I have no reason to test it. The hose is free to swivel 360 degrees at the handle end but not at the vacuum end due to the connection for the power head. It doesn't swivel all that well and it may take me a little getting used to it, but like I said I've never used a canister. As I mentioned there is a separate plug on the base of the hose for the power head. The S5 models have a plug integral with the hose. You have to unplug it to open the bag chamber but that's not a big deal.
The vacuum itself has very strong suction. It's adjustable of course by means of a knob on the top of the body. I noticed some dust on the bottom of the vacuum so decided to vacuum it off and pulled the label right off the base as well! It is fairly quiet, but noticeably louder with the small attachments due to drawing the amount of air it is through such a small opening. The cord reel works well. It rides on 3 independent caster wheels and maneuvers very well. The small attachments mount to a bracket on the base of the hose. They stay there well enough but the bracket nor the attachments are awe inspiring. Then again, what do you expect.
The bag compartment door opens by a latch at the front of the vacuum body. The cover seems pretty flimsy when open so be careful with it in that position. It looks to be held in the open position only by plastic detents in the hinge. Plastic hinges are also used on the motor filter door, but considering that this only needs changing with every 4th or 5th bag shouldn't be subject to a lot of wear. The bag compartment holds a factory installed g/n bag with a hinged closure to prevent dust leakage. By the time you open the compartment it is already closed. Removal and replacement couldn't be easier. For all the talk of a sealed system this Miele relies on a tapered plastic to plastic joint to achieve it. I expected to see a rubber gasket of some type around the bag chamber but it's not to be found on the Delphi. I think the s5 models have one and this may be what is meant by their double seal. I don't have any way to test it, but it certainly seems air tight. I suppose the motor's suction makes it even tighter when it's running.
As I alluded to earlier, the Delphi comes with a thin, non HEPA, air filter. You can buy one any time you want to put in, but at $53.00 I wouldn't get it unless you really need it. The thin "super clean" air filters come included in each box of bags. I assume if you don't have a model that originally came with this thin filter you will need to locate a carrier to hold it as it is much thinner than the HEPA filter. Kudo's to Miele for making this an option. Ongoing operational costs are something to consider with any appliance.
In summary I'm pleased with the S2120 Delphi. It has exactly the features I was looking for and I was willing to pay the higher price over something like an Electrolux Oxygen 3 in consideration of Miele's excellent reputation. At it's heart you get the same motor and suction as the higher priced models. My main concern is the durability of the plastic door, in particular it's hinges. If they break your vacuum is useless. Perhaps my fear is unwarranted. My four star rating is what I consider excellent for a new product. For me five stars would need to include a consideration of reliability. It's always a gamble, but I think with a Miele a pretty safe bet.

(More customer reviews)Our Hoover wind tunnel vacuum was beginning to show some wear after 6 years (power cord insulation broken) so we decided to spend a little more money and buy a Dyson DC14. As soon as it was out of the box and turned on it made a horrible grinding racket so it went right back in the box and back to the store. I was gun shy about buying another vacuum and spent a lot more time trying them out. Having owned several Hoover vacuums including a carpet cleaner that I love, I began to think I shouldn't stray from a reliable brand but I was still open-minded as I shopped and used several different brands and models at the store. I found the Hoover Elite Cyclonic to be the best that I tried. It is very simple to operate, with common sense, intuitive hookups between the canister and hose and the hose and wand. The adjustable wand is heavy duty metal and clicks quickly and easily in and out of the power nozzle. The power nozzle itself has a light and a powered, spinning brush that I like. The cyclone canister holds plenty of dust and lint and is easy to empty. I was leery about buying a canister since I have always found uprights easy to move around but I have absolutely no trouble handling the Elite Cyclonic. The adjustable handle is a plus since I am tall and my wife is shorter, and we can both vacuum comfortably. An absolute plus given my worn electrical cord problem is the automatic cord reel, which winds the cord into the canister body at the touch of a spring-loaded button. The vacuum is powerful and pulled dust, lint, and hair out of the carpet as well as the Dyson I used, but with none of the noise and flimsyness that I experienced with that brand.
The ONLY minor complaint I have about this vacuum concerns the fact that since it is bagless, there is a slight dusty mess when emptying the canister container into the wastebasket. I believe this to be true with any of the bagless vacuums currently on the market, and it empties quite like the Dyson that I tried. This messy disposal is certainly offset by the convenience and cost savings of not having to buy replacement bags. I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner!

My upright did not work on the wood floors and the hose attachment created back-breaking work. Sweeping & swiffering still left dust behind. After many months of searching I found this Panasonic. My upright Panasonic has been a rugged, dependable machine, so I knew the brand would be a sound buy. This vacuum is just perfect for wood/laminate/tile floors. In addition it does great on area rugs (low pile) and it's a dream on stairs (carpeted). Light weight, easy to manuever, with very good suction. Powerhead adjusts to wood/carpet and the rotating brush makes sure all dirt disappears. Very pleased with this vacuum.
