(More customer reviews)I did not purchase this from Amazon, but from a local big-box home improvement store. I have to say that I am more than impressed with this Sweeper, I was skeptical but this little thing is amazing.
Besides being able to quickly clean up area rugs and regular carpet I have to put out there that this thing picks up cat litter in one swipe! That in itself is a reason to purchase this. You do have put a little bit of muscle into it, more than a motorized vacuum but not much. For minor carpet cleaning this is a gem. Last minute guests? Use this for thirty seconds and no one will know the difference.
One thing I have to add; the pictures show it going from Hardwood to Carpet. While it does an incredible job on carpet and area rugs I feel it's not suited for hardwood at all, it just can't grab litter and other crumbs or debris.
Emptying the Sweep Up is also easy. Push at the indicated points and the trays that are held by magnets pop open. Cleaning the brushes may be a little more difficult but so is cleaning the brushes on your vacuum. If you want to hang it in a closet it folds flat. It will also stand up on its own without the handle falling over.

I just bought this at a local hardware store, mine is blue, not expecting anything fabulous, but lo-and-behold, I was amazed at how much pet hair, crumbs, even a small pile of fine dirt, that it picked-up. No, this is not a vaccum, nor did I expect it to be, but for quick in-between vaccuming jobs, this works quite well for me. I also love the fact that there is no electricity or batteries required. We have a dog and a cat that both shed a lot, and this is a big help to keep the hair under control.

(More customer reviews)It's easy to push, easy to empty, and cleans the bare floors well. On the carpet, which is pretty flat, I'm having an issue with the rubber pieces at the corners popping off. I'm not sure why. I bought it because it's the sweeper the custodians use at my school, and they're very happy with it. I like that it's a manual sweeper because I got tired of charging the cordless one I had, and I also got tired of replacing the expensive battery that refused to charge after a few years. Truthfully though, the cordless was more effective and practically pushed itself.

(More customer reviews)This device works fine for crumbs and little dry messes on carpet if you don't want to haul out the vacuum cleaner. However I was hoping it would also pick up stuff on hard floors, but it doesn't do very well there. It'll pick up if you move it pretty fast back and forth over the area, but to do the entire floor would cause you to work up quite a lather.
I was really looking for something a little more environmentally friendly than the portable, cordless vacuums which you have to throw away after a year because the battery's shot. But this wasn't it, not for me anyway.

You can push and pull till your blue in the face and your arm hurts on low pile rugs... and on bare floors all it does is push what your trying to pick up ahead of it....
Also the handle tends to pull apart ... directions say to tap it against the floor to tighten the sections together. I tapped them together with a hammer..seems to be holding for now.
Only good thing is you don't have to empty the sweeper too often because it doesn't pick up very well....

Bissell Sturdy Sweep Sweeper, 2402B Review

(More customer reviews)UPDATE: APRIL 2010: I uploaded some photos of my sweeper. Bissell neglects to show us how the underside of the sweeper looks.
I have had the sweeper for about 4-5 months. I use the sweeper for picking up bedding (Carefresh) for my guinea pig and his little poos under the futon. I also use it for little scraps that fall on the floor. It does it job and cleans on the surface but obviously will not replace a vacuum as it does not have suction.
QUALITY - 4 STARS: Sturdy except for the handle, the handle is put together by three pieces that you twist together. The brushes are made of thick nylon so they don't rip out easily.
EASE - 4 STARS: Great, since there's no electricity involved, there's no cords to deal with. It's better used for carpet. I do use it on my tile kitchen floor but sounds like it's scraping it and possibly scratching the floor. It does work on bare floors.
The twin dust pans are great because you can roll the sweeper in both directions and the dust will fall in either pan.
CLEANING - 2 STARS: It picks up hair great but gets caught in the rolling brush. There's a detachable comb to use to pick out the hair but I just use my fingers, it's much faster because I can break the hairs loose but a bit gross. I don't mind getting dirty.
EDGE-CLEANING - 0 STARS: You cannot clean the edges with this thing. You'll have to pull out the vacuum. Since the main brush is in the middle, there's a lot of slack that the brush is not picking up dust.
DURABILITY - 4 STARS: This product will probably last for at least 5 years. Maybe by then, they will have another fantastic product for me. (UPDATE: It's April 2010, and the sweeper is still holding on strong).***PRECAUTION*** Don't be fooled for the five brush system, the four edge-cleaning brushes are worthless. The four edge-brushes do not help in cleaning corners. You should probably INVEST in the DUAL BRUSH system or a good vacuum cleaner with attachments (but not the Duster Buster, I reviewed the Dirt Devil Scorpion, very good).
OVERALL, THE SWEEPER DOES ITS JOB but I would buy this specific product again because it's cheap. I would like to try the dual brush sweeper. I believe that the dual brush sweeper will cover more area than a single brush sweeper but this theory will need to be tested.

(More customer reviews)I hate vacuuming! It hurts my back and it's just an unfortunate necessary hassle. But with a house full of messy, fuzzy and feathered pets it's a very regular must! I was planning to get one of those roombas hoping to save me on the frequency of the chore but hearing reports that they break down didn't seem to make my problems any easier. My husband saw a swivel sweeper on TV but I feared it might be another "made in china" electronic susceptible to breakdowns. Remembering those little carpet sweepers from school days I thought this might be a good idea to keep up with the animals. It's a simple minute to assemble, and a few sweeps over floor or carpet and you can see the floor...no crumbs, no fluff, just carpeting. I was really surprised when I went to empty out the canister, another simple task, to find that there was more pet hair, feathers and other crumbs, kibbles and dust than I could see on the carpet! I can't even imagine how this could break which also gives a some piece of mind to know it's there when you need it. The bottom line: it's fast, effective, lightweight, easy to maintain and easy to store. No it won't replace your vacuum or get deep into the corners but it's a real help in keeping things neat, and a welcomed time saver. It has paid for itself in saving vacuum cleaner bags and electricity in no time, but I am especially glad for it having spared my back. A great gadget for households with pets and toddlers, and one I would highly recommend.

(More customer reviews)My mother gave me a Fuller Brush electrostatic carpet sweeper since she enjoyed hers so much. I love mine and am wanting to buy another one for my mother-in-law. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry them. They are lightweight, easy to use and pick up dust and dirt very well on various surfaces- carpets, cement floors, wooden floors, or whatever. It's easier on the back than a dustbuster and quicker to pull out than a vacuum cleaner. Although they may not replace a vacuum cleaner, they are easy to use for those in-between times.

Then I opened it to empty and saw the TON of pet hair inside that I couldn't see in the carpet! On the second try it started picking up the wood chips with ease. Does it replace a vacuum sweeper? No, but its great for quick clean up between vacuuming...especially when someone calls to say they were just in the neighborhood...
