Adding threaded fittings would barely have increased the cost. I like most Rubbermaid products, but this one has a serious design flaw.

(More customer reviews)We were not at all happy with this item. It did not do what it said it would. I wanted something to pick up pet hair. Hoky suggested a different model which we also tried. Not so good either. We ended up with a Bissell at half the price and it does a great job. If you buy one be sure you understand two things. Check to see if the site will return your money if you are not happy with the product. The place we got if from wouldn't. Amazon took care of the problem. Second, the handle is really hard to take appart if you want to send it back.

(More customer reviews)It's easy to push, easy to empty, and cleans the bare floors well. On the carpet, which is pretty flat, I'm having an issue with the rubber pieces at the corners popping off. I'm not sure why. I bought it because it's the sweeper the custodians use at my school, and they're very happy with it. I like that it's a manual sweeper because I got tired of charging the cordless one I had, and I also got tired of replacing the expensive battery that refused to charge after a few years. Truthfully though, the cordless was more effective and practically pushed itself.

(More customer reviews)This device works fine for crumbs and little dry messes on carpet if you don't want to haul out the vacuum cleaner. However I was hoping it would also pick up stuff on hard floors, but it doesn't do very well there. It'll pick up if you move it pretty fast back and forth over the area, but to do the entire floor would cause you to work up quite a lather.
I was really looking for something a little more environmentally friendly than the portable, cordless vacuums which you have to throw away after a year because the battery's shot. But this wasn't it, not for me anyway.

You can push and pull till your blue in the face and your arm hurts on low pile rugs... and on bare floors all it does is push what your trying to pick up ahead of it....
Also the handle tends to pull apart ... directions say to tap it against the floor to tighten the sections together. I tapped them together with a hammer..seems to be holding for now.
Only good thing is you don't have to empty the sweeper too often because it doesn't pick up very well....

The exception is the handle, which comes in two pieces for compact packaging and shipping - it it makes using it just a little wobbly. Not a deal breaker, just not quite as good as the original. The rest of the mechanics are rock solid and it really cleans. I will get one for my office, too!

Hoky PowerRotor PR3000 Sweeper Review

(More customer reviews)I use my heavy Hoover self-propelled vacuum once or twice a week. It does a superb job deep-cleaning and lifting the fibres of my carpets. At all other times between vacuuming I use the Hoky (what a misnomer!!!) for cleanups.
Over the years, I have tried many other types of "mini-cleaners" including several rechargeable and 120 volt. These include stick cleaners and hand-held cleaners, several with power nozzles.
Cleanup varies from poor to adequate with all of these. AND the rechargeable batteries never seem to last very long until they will not hold a decent charge - then the batteries cost as much as the whole cleaner to replace. Also 120v cleaners require a convenient outlet and their power cords to be released then rewound after use. The ones with small dirt containers need to be emptied and their small filters usually need to be brushed off and washed after each use if their (often feeble) suction is to remain effective.
The Hoky is always ready to use and does a first rate job of picking up all regular debris tracked in the house - including pet hair and fur. It works equally well on wood floors, laminate floors, ceramic tiles and carpeting - picking dirt up in one pass and requiring minimal effort to push (unless carpet pile is particularly plush). It will even clean wet floors - instead of a brush, it has a "RotorBlade" (a spindle with rubber squeegees) - which works well for small liquid spills. Emptying the 2 dirt pans is very straightforward; there are no filters to clog and the rotorblade seems to clean itself of hair and fur.
One Hoky and one heavy vacuum (per floor maybe?) is all you need to keep your floors free of dirt and debris at all times with minimal effort. None of the other "mini cleaners" I have used have done a better job AND all of them are less convenient.
Just remember to park the Hoky horizontally (or empty it before parking it) to avoid dumping dirt next time you start to use it. OR wait until the next "unbeliever" needs a demonstration. Just one or two passes and it will all be picked up again.

Bissell Sturdy Sweep Sweeper, 2402B Review

(More customer reviews)UPDATE: APRIL 2010: I uploaded some photos of my sweeper. Bissell neglects to show us how the underside of the sweeper looks.
I have had the sweeper for about 4-5 months. I use the sweeper for picking up bedding (Carefresh) for my guinea pig and his little poos under the futon. I also use it for little scraps that fall on the floor. It does it job and cleans on the surface but obviously will not replace a vacuum as it does not have suction.
QUALITY - 4 STARS: Sturdy except for the handle, the handle is put together by three pieces that you twist together. The brushes are made of thick nylon so they don't rip out easily.
EASE - 4 STARS: Great, since there's no electricity involved, there's no cords to deal with. It's better used for carpet. I do use it on my tile kitchen floor but sounds like it's scraping it and possibly scratching the floor. It does work on bare floors.
The twin dust pans are great because you can roll the sweeper in both directions and the dust will fall in either pan.
CLEANING - 2 STARS: It picks up hair great but gets caught in the rolling brush. There's a detachable comb to use to pick out the hair but I just use my fingers, it's much faster because I can break the hairs loose but a bit gross. I don't mind getting dirty.
EDGE-CLEANING - 0 STARS: You cannot clean the edges with this thing. You'll have to pull out the vacuum. Since the main brush is in the middle, there's a lot of slack that the brush is not picking up dust.
DURABILITY - 4 STARS: This product will probably last for at least 5 years. Maybe by then, they will have another fantastic product for me. (UPDATE: It's April 2010, and the sweeper is still holding on strong).***PRECAUTION*** Don't be fooled for the five brush system, the four edge-cleaning brushes are worthless. The four edge-brushes do not help in cleaning corners. You should probably INVEST in the DUAL BRUSH system or a good vacuum cleaner with attachments (but not the Duster Buster, I reviewed the Dirt Devil Scorpion, very good).
OVERALL, THE SWEEPER DOES ITS JOB but I would buy this specific product again because it's cheap. I would like to try the dual brush sweeper. I believe that the dual brush sweeper will cover more area than a single brush sweeper but this theory will need to be tested.

Aside from the spacial dimensions being the same, the color is different,
and mine says "HOKY PR 3000" instead of "HOKY, by Oreck". It doesn't matter, because this thing is a marvel in action! It picks up everything in sight, plus most of what you don't see. It uses an 8 flapped rolling pin, having tiny treaded dots on them, to swipe away even heavier or coarse uneven objects, like coins and popcorn. In action, I'd have to guess it works just as well as any electric vacuum.
As on all Hokys, there are 2 foldable dust compartments (on this model being spring loaded) slightly accessible to each other inside. The dust can be deposited in either one, depending on which direction you vacuum.
The 3 foot long aluminum handle comes in segmented parts. In action, it can lower fully flat against the vacuum head to reach low crevices. The 4 vinyl wheels are spaced close together, and provide better traction than plastic. Also, there are 4 small horsehair brushes at each corner, covering the 2" gaps that the rolling pin can't touch. When combined, they clean the whole length of the vacuum head.
As a complete package, I give this machine 5 well-earned stars!

(More customer reviews)My mother gave me a Fuller Brush electrostatic carpet sweeper since she enjoyed hers so much. I love mine and am wanting to buy another one for my mother-in-law. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry them. They are lightweight, easy to use and pick up dust and dirt very well on various surfaces- carpets, cement floors, wooden floors, or whatever. It's easier on the back than a dustbuster and quicker to pull out than a vacuum cleaner. Although they may not replace a vacuum cleaner, they are easy to use for those in-between times.

Also, the handle comes in pieces and then screws together which makes it much easier to maneuver, my last one did not screw together and would come apart. In between regular vacuuming (with a high power machine) this is the perfect quiet sweeper.

Then I opened it to empty and saw the TON of pet hair inside that I couldn't see in the carpet! On the second try it started picking up the wood chips with ease. Does it replace a vacuum sweeper? No, but its great for quick clean up between vacuuming...especially when someone calls to say they were just in the neighborhood...
